Playing with kids' bath foam as pretend snow was great fun today and super messy. At one point all their hands turned blue from the foam, and I briefly worried I'd be sending little smurfs home, but thankfully it all washed off easily.

More Christmas fun today with magnatiles and bells. The children decorated the tiles to create a tree and gingerbread house, fascinated by how the bells and coloured tiles stuck to the magnetic surfaces. They used various loose parts to construct Christmas trees pictures, and we found a tea light to place inside one, which lit it up beautifully.

I was very lucky to meet Alice Sharp on her course in Prestwick today. From big movements to little marks: Building the foundations for writing. It explored how children's early mark making gradually develops into writing, and how crucial both gross and fine motor skills development are in that progression. I picked up some new and exciting practical ideas to try out. The one that really stood out was painting with nose tips on separate bits of paper, then arranging them together into a piece of art as well as a few more new ideas. I can already picture the children having a brilliant time with this one.

It was freezing today so we took advantage of all the ice in the tuff trays. The kids had a blast trying to peel the ice off the trays and then carefully placing it on the floor without it breaking - easier said than done! They then had great fun painting on the ice, which looked really cool, and then just went to town smashing it all up. That was definitely their favourite part! Very impressed as they lasted half an hour out there.

Nursery rhymes box was out today. Their favourite is always 5 Currant Buns! Lots of giggles . Learning through play, they love taking turns being the customer and the baker, swapping pennies for buns while we sing and count back from 5.

This is brilliant for 3 year olds - they're learning about numbers and counting backwards, which is trickier than counting up. Role playing, swapping the pennies for buns gives them a real hands-on way to understand early maths concepts like one-to-one correspondence and "taking away."

The girls made lovely birthday cards for one of their friends as we always make our own cards for everyone. Both of them...

The girls made lovely birthday cards for one of their friends as we always make our own cards for everyone. Both of them drew in the crosses for kisses all by themselves, which was great! But I think their favourite part was peeling off the sticky strip on the envelope and picking out a sticker to use as a stamp. Learning about thoughtfulness and doing something nice for others, is a big part of their social and emotional development at this age.

Lego is a massive favourite here. I love how one of the 3 year olds always builds something - she's creating structures ...

Lego is a massive favourite here. I love how one of the 3 year olds always builds something - she's creating structures with a purpose. Shows great imagination. Today she even put a little chair right at the very top for Peppa, which was so cute! Building with Lego is brilliant for 3 year olds - it works on their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as they click the bricks together, and it really encourages creative thinking and problem-solving as they figure out how to make what they're imagining.

Messy afternoon today playing with slime - it's always a huge hit with them! They were trying to squeeze
it into a bottle, and then just sitting there waiting super patiently for it to fall back out again. This kind of sensory play is brilliant for 3 year olds - it helps them develop their fine motor skills through all that squeezing and stretching, and watching the slime slowly fall out of the bottle is great for building patience and understanding cause and effect. Plus the tactile experience of the slime helps with sensory development and keeps them focused and engaged, for nearly a whole hour.

Today was the last day playing with the mini pumpkins. We scooped out all the seeds, dipped them in paint, and made some really cool pictures. We also had spiders frozen in ice, and they used warm water to melt the ice and watch all the spiders escape - they loved that!

Then it just turned into free play time where they were filling and pouring, making "soup" with whatever was left over. They even threw in the egg boxes that had paint in them and figured out pretty quickly that they get super soggy when you dip them in water!

These children are obsessed with playing offices and restaurants - they're always chatting away on the phones and ordering pizzas! Counting one penny for each pizza. We did some mark making and practiced tracing their names, and today they had a really good go at writing their names by themselves. One even drew a picture of two of her big brothers. Well done girls!

We did a number hunt in the rice today, finding numbers and learning to recognize them up to 5. The kiddies were counting items and clipping the right number with pegs. One of them said "3, that's my age!" "4 that's my next birthday" They were matching the right amount of spiders to each number. They had a blast with it, scooping and pouring and burying their hands.
