A huge thank you to for capturing last week's workshop so perfectly!

Together we explored three of our native hedgerow plants, chatted about inks, foraging, and sustainability as part of the .cic climate week event for their new culture collective. I couldn't have asked for a nicer bunch of people for my first workshop post-art school! ❤️

Very exciting things are happening at Narture just now and it's been amazing to hear about their plans. If you're in Ayrshire, or even the SW, keep an eye on the happenings on their page for future events!

Welcome to the studio shed ❤️

It's been a funny old summer adjusting to life outside of education, it still feels weird that the summer has ended and I haven't begun a new semester. Five years is a long time to be in one structure and it's been a difficult transition losing that. Alongside the readjustment is the heaviness of burnout from the weight and stress of the last few years - art school is so intense, even though I loved it.

Still, there has been something beautiful my parents and I have been chipping away at to allow me to have a safe haven to dedicate to my practice now I have finished education. My dad's old workshop was beginning to rot away in the garden and he was moving on to a bigger and better space in the garage, leaving the old shed in need of a new keeper (and a LOT of TLC.) My mum asked if it would be useful - I responded that it would be life-changing.

And so it is, my beautiful little sanctuary, my cosy wee shed in the garden, where I can make as much mess and chaos as I like and dream about plants and inks and Scotland to my hearts content ❤️

This is just a little glimpse, but you'll be seeing a lot more of her in time 🛖🌳

And so here we are at the end of it all...

Ten years ago I made the decision that university wasn't for me and decided to leave education, I thought, for good. Now here I am, graduating with a first class honours having had the most incredible time with some phenomenal people for the last three (5 if you include college) years. I'll never be able to express how grateful I am for this opportunity - which could only have been made possible from the unyielding support of my family and friends even when things got so tough I wasn't sure I'd make it to the end. How very glad I am that I did, the final year was the most rewarding and inspiring. The amount of conversations had, people met, opportunities taken, and supportive comments has been a true privilege.

I'm a west coast girl to the core, but Dundee has captured a piece of my heart and I'll always cherish the memories of my time there. From my first little studio space crammed next to the bins, my beloved third year cottage kitchen space, and my den of chaos with my closest friends in fourth year 💕. The creativity, ambition, skill, and knowledge I have been surrounded by from my cohort and the staff has been awe-inspiring and I can't wait to watch everyone's journeys continue ❤️

After 7 months of location scouting, filming,
recording, driving to the four corners of Scotland, getting soaked repeatedly, and then being locked in the edit suite for 3 of those months... My film is finally finished and ready for degree show next month. To celebrate I thought I'd share some of the clips for a sneak peak 👀

Once again I cannot thank everyone who got involved in this work and my little team of helpers and emotional supporters enough ❤️ This has been a mammoth project and such a journey from start to finish (literally!)

I also have so much gratitude for the amazing tech staff at DJCAD. Without them I wouldn't have been able to bring all this together the way I dreamt.

It's today!
and have pulled together a team working to spread the good word of the bannock. A day to celebrate Scottish food heritage and the humble bannock - a staple of Scottish diets for centuries which has been disappearing from our plates.

I worked with to pull together a fushion dish which paired my little bannocks with a richly spiced daal, Noby's wonderful pineapple jam, and fiery sambal, marrying flavours of Malaysia with Scotland's oats. The combination worked wonderfully, the bannock is, at its heart, a flatbread with a neutral flavour of oats so they pair wonderfully with sweet or savoury dishes and can be eaten with any meal, or as a high energy snack!

Celebrate the bannock, they're so easy to make, I like to make mine quite thin for scooping and spreading but they come in all shapes and sizes ❤️ ask yer granny, she might just have an old family recipe 😉

March coming in like a lion, hopefully will be out like a lamb as we're all craving the respite of calmer days.

One month on and I am still trudging on through the grieving process of losing my oldest friend and muse. Creatively and motivationally stunted by loss and the trials of the past year, I have, as ever, sought solace in nature and in observing the slow reawakening happening around me. Old life slipping away alongside the eruption of new life from the cold earth. There's something poetic in the quiet hidden corners of wild spaces where there is no mourning, just a quiet carrying on in acceptance of the cyclical nature of existence. Birth, death, decay, rebirth. On and on ad infinitum.

I'm rambling. Degree show is looming.

Here's to the horse of a lifetime, Kelly.
You shaped the direction of my life in ways none of us imagined. I'll always be a horse girl and you'll always guide my hand in everything I create.

A few of my favourites from a very special day. Two years ago I had the ultimate honour of being by my best friend's side while she married the love of her life in a beautiful village in the Cairngorms.
Just a few days before the wedding, Hollie received the worst news - her Dad had been rushed to critical care following a cardiac arrest. Hollie and Drew faced the difficult decision to let the wedding go on once they knew that, by a miracle, and the incredible care from the Golden Jubilee Hospital, her dad was going to make it.
Now, two years on, Hollie was finally able to complete her wedding album, returning to Nethybridge to have her father-daughter dance and photographs taken around the lovely hotel. It was my honour once again to return with them to assist and take these photos and be part of another special day. We were blessed with the same gorgeous weather we had back in 2023 (though an absence of the northern lights this time!) and it couldn't have been a lovelier day to complete the wedding pictures for Hollie, Drew, and her dad Marcus.

To everyone who has helped me in making, given me advice, shared their stories, supported me while I've stepped way out of my comfort zone, and volunteered their time to speak about and let me film the amazing work they are doing - I truly thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️

This year's project is making 6 year old Ruth very very happy with all this pony time out on the hills.. It was so interesting to spend a day with last week learning about the work they are doing to help preserve our at risk native highland ponies and watching them do the job they were bred to do.

I'm only two and a half months in and my brain feels fit to burst with all the people I have met and the conversations had around Scottish culture, heritage, and that intangible connection to the people who came before and the land we've inherited. The threads that weave all of us together is becoming both clearer and more complex than I ever imagined it could be.

I can't thank everyone who has been interviewed and allowed me to film enough. It feels like I'm cooking up something special this year and I couldn't be doing it without everyone's generosity ❤️
