Spanish Immersion Day at Marr College
On Monday we were delighted to welcome pupils from Queen Margaret Academy and Kyle Academy to Marr College for a Higher Spanish Immersion Day, organised as part of the 1+2 Languages Initiative.
Pupils took part in three engaging workshops: a Higher Spanish revision session focusing on speaking skills, pronunciation and translation challenges; a tapas workshop led by Mrs Mendez; and a flamenco workshop delivered by Tu Flamenco.
Throughout the day, pupils had a fantastic experience, developed their language skills, and gained a deeper understanding of Spanish culture in an authentic and interactive way. Our own S3 Spanish pupils also had the opportunity to participate in the flamenco workshop at the end of the day, which was a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Leadership and Languages.

A huge congratulations to Neve, one of our Higher French and Higher Spanish students, who is currently working towards her Leadership Award at Marr College.
As part of her award, Neve has begun teaching French to P4 pupils at Struthers Primary School. Today she successfully delivered her very first lesson and did an outstanding job. Her enthusiasm, confidence and careful preparation ensured that the pupils were fully engaged from the start.
Neve will continue to lead weekly lessons over the next seven weeks, helping pupils develop their language skills while gaining valuable leadership and teaching experience herself.

International Day of Languages.

We were delighted to celebrate our International Day of Languages on Wednesday, a truly inspiring event that highlighted the incredible diversity within our school community. Our talented pupils took the lead in planning and delivering language and culture workshops for S1 learners and staff. Spanish, Italian, Thai, Greek, Czech, French, Mongolian, Russian, Hungarian, Polish, Gujarati and Malayalam were all showcased. From tasting delicious foods and learning about daily life in different countries to picking up some key words and phrases, there was a real buzz of excitement and curiosity throughout the event.

The event was a wonderful celebration of Article 30 of the UNCRC, which recognises every child’s right to use and enjoy their own language and culture. We are so proud of our young linguists for sharing their languages, cultures and experiences with such confidence and enthusiasm. A huge thank you also goes to all the staff who popped along to support the event and a special thank you to Mrs Ledingham who made it all happen!

International Day of Languages.

A huge thank you to our 10 amazing pupils who organised and led workshops for our International Day of Languages celebration!
Many of them were nervous about standing up in front of others and leading a session, but they showed incredible courage, stepping out of their comfort zones to share their languages, cultures and experiences. They did themselves, their families and our school community proud.
Thank you for inspiring others and helping to make the day such a success!

NEW: Art & Design Competition Club at Marr College

Calling all Marr College pupils with an interest in art, design, and creativity.

The Art & Design Competition Club has been created to support pupils in accessing and submitting work for live and upcoming art and design competitions, awards, and other creative opportunities.

Join us every Thursday lunchtime in Miss Anderson's Room for support with:

Selecting and developing artwork
Preparing competition and exhibition submissions
Meeting deadlines
Building a wider achievement portfolio
Showcasing your creative talents beyond the classroom

Whether you're working towards a specific opportunity or looking to challenge yourself creatively, this club is a great way to gain recognition for your achievements and represent Marr College through the arts.

Challenge Enterprise 2026
Calling all budding Business Leaders!

Challenge Enterprise is a weekend programme organised by Rotary District 1320 and is designed for 16 and 17 year olds in S5 and S6 of secondary education who have the ability and desire to become the next generation of business leaders.

We are delighted to share that Marr College has 2 places available for this wonderful event - fully funded by the Rotary. The event will commence at 10:30am on Friday 30th October 2026 and end at 1.30pm following lunch on Sunday 1st November 2026 and will be held at Carronvale House, Larbert FK5 3LH which is the Boys Brigade Headquarters for Scotland. Spanish Trip
Our final day in Águilas was packed with exciting activities and unforgettable memories. In the morning, we travelled to Cartagena, where we visited the impressive ancient Roman Theatre and learned about its fascinating history.

After the visit, we had some free time to explore the streets of Cartagena. As the weather was extremely hot, many of us enjoyed some delicious Spanish ice cream while taking in the atmosphere of the city.

In the afternoon, we headed to the beach for three hours of water sports. We had great fun paddleboarding and kayaking, and some brave students even took part in a backflip competition!
To finish our amazing trip, we enjoyed a farewell party filled with singing, dancing and laughter. After a fantastic final day, we travelled home tired but happy, full of wonderful memories that we will never forget.

What an incredible few days our S3 pupils have had in Águilas so far! They have been making the most of every opportunity to practise their Spanish and experience the local culture.

The trip began with Spanish lessons allowing pupils to develop their language skills in an authentic Spanish environment.

We visited the bull ring and explored the beautiful old town centre of Águilas, discovering more about the history and culture of the town. And, of course, we couldn’t resist enjoying some ice cream by the beach!

We also had an action-packed day at Aquavera Water Park, making the most of the slides, pools and Spanish sunshine!

Today, we are heading to Cartagena where we’ll step back in time and explore the fascinating remains of this ancient city. Pupils will have the opportunity to discover its rich Roman heritage, explore the impressive Roman theatre and archaeological sites.

It has been a fantastic trip filled with language learning, culture, history, adventure and plenty of unforgettable memories and there is still more to come!
