This one is a biggie for the parents of girls. Whilst they look adorable in photos when they have their hair tied in a bunch of coloured hair ties, there is no need to add extra stress onto the first day back by spending ages working on an intricate hair style.

Tonight's top tip will help to avoid grumpy children with a sore back - don't overpack their school bags!

Make sure they only carry the essentials they'll need for the day. This includes:
* Water bottle
* Lunch box
* A healthy snack
* A change of clothes - clearly labelled!

Top Tip #4

Staying with the theme of being independent at school. It's a good idea to practise opening lunch boxes and snacks so your child can easily get to their food when they are hungry.

Encouraging them to repack their lunch box when they are finished also means you have a better chance of getting everything back at the end of the day.

Top Tip #3

Another tip to support independence is being able to put shoes on the correct feet.

You can support this in 2 ways;

1️⃣ Cut a large sticker in half and place one piece into each shoe. Then teach your child to rebuild the sticker to make sure their shoes are the correct way around.

2️⃣ Show your child how to hold the velcro straps together in the middle of their shoes to position them correctly for going on their feet.

Remember they may need to do this for multiple sets of shoes depending on whether their school changes into indoor shoes when they enter the building so make sure to practise with each pair.

Top Tip #2

Help your child to be independent at school by practising using the buttons, trouser fastenings and zips on their uniform as well as removing sweatshirts without getting stuck!

They will need to go to the toilet independently and change for PE, but can also get too hot in the classroom.

Make sure you label everything...literally everything!

In a classroom of up to 30 children it can be hard to make sure everyone goes home with all their belongings. By labeling all of your child’s uniform and tupperware you are not only saving yourself hassle but making it easier for their teacher.

Also make sure you label both parts of any containers your child uses as it's no use having the base with no lid!
