Really enjoyed this πŸ€“ I've been following Dr Pak for a while so was keen to read. In an industry obsessed with the somewhat elusive optimisation, Pak's research asks an important question - what's the least you have to do to get meaningful strength gains? Consider this, if 80% of the gains, including a multitude of meaningful health benefits, are achieved with 20% of the work, suddenly you've made something much more accessible, to many more people. πŸ‘Œ

This is one of my clients.

She's 77 years old.

She just lifted 45 kilograms (5 sets of 5 reps!)

Six months ago she wasn't sure exercise was even worth trying at her age.

It was.

If you've been wondering whether it's too late β€” it almost certainly isn't.

This is the studio where I work with people in their 60s and 70s who are tired of being told to rest, take it easy, or just put up with it.
Private. One person at a time. Parking right outside.

No gym environment. No intimidating equipment. No feeling out of place.

Just a calm space, expert clinical guidance, and a plan built entirely around you.

If you've been wondering whether there's something that could actually help β€” this is where it starts.

When did you first notice you were holding the bannister?

For a lot of people it creeps up slowly. One day you just... reach for it. And then it becomes a habit.
It feels like getting older. Something to accept and get on with.

But for most people it's not inevitable. It's a strength problem. And strength problems have solutions.
I work with people in their 60s and 70s in Towcester who felt exactly this way β€” and who are now doing things they genuinely didn't think were possible anymore.

Anyone else had this moment? Let me know in the comments β€” you're probably not alone.

Following on from my stupid shoulder post earlier this week...

Here's what I'm actually doing about it.

A few of the exercises I'm working through right now β€” loading the tendon progressively, building capacity rather than just waiting for it to get better.

I have a Masters degree in Pain Management and 11 years of clinical experience. And this is exactly what I'd prescribe for any client walking through my door with the same problem.

Rest isn't the answer. The right load, done consistently, is.
If you've got a shoulder β€” or a knee, or a hip, or a back β€” that's been bothering you for a while and you're not sure what to do about it, I'd love to have a chat.

No pressure. Just a free, no-obligation conversation.
Message me or call 07734 429423.

My shoulder has been giving me grief for a few weeks now.
Still hurts β€” but it's stopped clunking. Which feels like progress.

I'm not resting it. I'm loading it carefully and progressively β€” the same approach I use with clients.

Because for most shoulder pain, rest is actually the worst long-term strategy.

Anyone else out there managing a stupid body part? Knee, back, hip, shoulder β€” let me know in the comments. You're probably not alone.
