Why? 👀👇🏻

You know you want to work in sport but don’t know how to get started?

Sometimes the best way to decide is to put the words “sport jobs” into google and a bunch of roles will come up.

It’s how I started my work in sport journey.

I knew I wanted to work in sport but wasn’t sure where to start.

If I was starting again I would follow a bunch of sports recruitment sites so I was constantly seeing:

⚽️ What roles are available and what ones interest me

⚽️ What skills and experience do I need to be getting now to fill that role in the future

⚽️ What kind of salaries they pay

By looking at these roles, the salaries and requirements you can set yourself up now to get the right experience to land the job in the future.

Here are my top 5 sport recruitment accounts to follow:

Great to attend the annual Women in Sport Breakfast.

Great to see a lot of men in the room as well.

Crowds are up
More eyes are watching women’s sport than ever.

What comes after this?

The money.

More commercial investment and money for the athletes.

It’s a win win.

These are the 1% ers that make the difference when competing against others trying to land their first job in sport.

Start Asking Questions
At an event or have a guest lecturer coming in? Get to know them. Start asking them questions about their career. At some stage they will ask you what you want to do. There is your “IN” to ask for an opportunity to work with them or their company. This happens to me ALL THE TIME with volunteers and people I meet at networking events!

Start Being More Strategic
Don’t just go along to a networking or sport event do your research. Who are the speakers, what sport to they work in. My number one tip… every seated event has a guest list on the door. Go look where your favourite sport is seated and go and talk to them in the break.

Be Helpful!
The volunteers or interns that get asked back?
What’s the secret?
They do an amazing job of helping us at events and making our lives easier by taking things off our plates.

In sport you may here the term…

Overworked and underpaid 😂 this is so the case because we love what we do.

The best volunteers are super helpful. They don’t wait to be asked, the step up and get the job done.

👀 we notice these people - they stand out and are giving the opportunities for paid work 👀

Save this and hit that follow button if you want to land your first job in sport ASAP!

The struggle is real and I hear it all the time.

“I have my sports degree why can’t I land a job?

“I’ve applied for over 100 jobs and haven’t receive a single interview of piece of feedback”

“Help”

There are 3 things I want you to focus on:

1️⃣ Sports Industry Work Experience

Did you build this while you were studying? Is it on page one of your resume? Are you using your sports industry experience to answer job interview questions. This is a game changer. If you aren’t doing these things I guarantee your fellow interviewee is.

Sport is a super competitive industry to break into you have to differentiate yourself from the other candidates.

2️⃣ Sports Industry Network

In the sports industry it’s not what you know but who you know. 90% of the jobs go to people who know people at the sports org or team or have worked their before. Volunteering at sports events allows you to work with teams and sports orgs + build your sports industry network. Make sure you add everyone you meet on LinkedIn

3️⃣ Sport Job Interview Prep

How prepared and confident are you when you walk in that interview room? Have you looked at the sports org or teams strategic plan, what about there news releases, LinkedIn account. Did you look up your interviewer on LinkedIn?

Preparation is key to your success in a sport job interview. Our students are better prepared and confident when they walk into that interview room.

Save this for later and follow for daily work in sport tips 🏆

3 of the biggest Motorsport events in Australia.

People want to go straight to F1, that opportunity usually comes after you’ve built your skill in a lower level category.
