Weekly Round-Up – 12/06/2026

It has been another busy and exciting week across the school, with lots of fantastic learning taking place. The children have shown great enthusiasm and confidence in their activities, and we are very proud of their efforts.
Year R – This week, we explored odd and even numbers. We built our own Numberblocks and discussed the even tops and odd blocks we could see. We finished by sorting our Numberblocks into even and odd groups. The children did a fantastic job and were able to confidently explain why their number was odd or even – well done!

Year 1 – In computing, we have been learning how to use a keyboard. We began by finding the letters in our names, before opening Word and trying to type the alphabet. It was quite tricky to find all the letters, but everyone showed great determination!

Year 2 – We were very excited to welcome our caterpillars this week! We had a close look at them and noticed how tiny they are. Some of us even enjoy talking to them as we watch them grow.

Year 3 – In writing this week, we have been learning about contractions. Working in groups, we matched phrases to their correct contractions and built our understanding through teamwork.

Year 4 – To immerse ourselves in our new text The Flood, we acted out part of the story using a “freeze frame” at the moment when the characters decide to ignore the safety warning. There was some excellent acting, and great confidence shown when performing in front of the class.

Year 5 – This week, we have been learning how to compare continents using statistics such as life expectancy, population density and wealth. We also discussed how climate might influence the differences between continents. In addition, we used atlases and rulers to calculate distances using map scales (e.g. 1cm = 50km). Excellent work, Year 5! 🗺️📍

Some of our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils have headed off on their residential trip to Little Canada today. We are excited to hear all about their adventures and what they have been up to next week!

In science this week, year 3 learnt about shadows. We learnt that shadows form where light is blocked. We explored making our own shadows and then discovered how the colour of shadows can change when there is a different coloured light 💡🔦

Sports betting has become increasingly visible online, appearing across apps, websites, social media, sports coverage and gaming spaces.

Even when young people are not legally old enough to gamble, they may still encounter betting messages through adverts, influencers, tipsters, friends or adult accounts.

Our latest guide highlights key risks, including:
• Easy online access
• Gambling becoming normalised around sport
• Peer and influencer pressure
• Free bet offers
• Impulsive spending and chasing losses

It also offers practical advice for parents, carers and educators on starting calm conversations, setting safer digital boundaries, spotting warning signs and finding support.

We had a great first week back at school, take a look at what we learnt below!

Year R - This week we have been learning about doubles. We began by using our hands to show doubles and then progressed to representing them on the rekenreks. Well done Year R!

Year 1 - This week we have been learning about the Buddhist festival Esala Perahera. This is a special festival which takes place in Sri Lanka. This afternoon we learnt about the temple of the tooth. We found out that inside the temple is the tooth relic of Buddha.

Year 2 - The rain eased off yesterday and lots of fun and learning at OWL.
Tools, dens, climbing, teamwork, bug hunting and of course splashing.🤩

Year 3 - This week in RE we learnt about the 5th pillar of Islam, Hajj. We learnt that Hajj was a special journey (pilgrimage) to Mecca. Today we designed and researched our own special journey that we could take. ☪️🕋

Year 4 - In RE this week, we have been learning about Eid-ul-Adha, a Muslim celebration. We talked about the story of Ibrahim and Ismail and how Muslims remember the sacrifice Ibrahim was asked to make as a final test. We learned that Muslims share their food with others during the celebrations. To represent this, we split some money into thirds, one third for those less fortunate, one third for friends and one third for the table of children to share. We then did the same with some sweets. We discussed how it felt to sacrifice two thirds of what we started with and had responses from frustrated, angry, sad to good, happy and glad. Of course, at the end we were all able to have a couple of sweets too.

Year 5 - This week we completed several Stormbreak activities in class. These focussed on self worth and involved the children teaching each other an action, before passing it along the line. The class worked brilliantly to support each other and it was great to have a movement break after a few wet playtimes 🌧️☔️

Year 6 - have been doing some great practice of their 13x tables this week, applying their learning in different contexts.Practice at home with them and see what they can remember!

Minecraft continues to be a highly popular platform for children, combining creativity, problem-solving and social interaction.

While the game can offer positive opportunities for learning and play, features such as public servers, multiplayer modes and in-game communication can create safeguarding challenges.

Our latest guide supports educators and parents in understanding these risks and helping children play more safely.

The guide explores:
• Public server communication and contact with unknown players
• Griefing, disruptive behaviour and online conflict
• In-game spending and subscription costs
• Addictive gameplay loops and balanced screen time
• Safer settings, private servers and suitable game modes

With clear, practical advice, the guide helps adults set boundaries, encourage safer choices and support responsible Minecraft use.

It has been another busy and exciting week across the school, with children engaging in a wide range of learning experiences both in and out of the classroom. We are continually impressed by the enthusiasm, curiosity, and effort shown in every year group. Please enjoy reading about what each class has been up to this week.

Year R
This week in Maths, we have been using rekenreks to help us see amounts quickly and explore number patterns. The children have been learning how to use them correctly by sliding the beads to represent different numbers. They have done a fantastic job developing their understanding—well done, Year R!

Year 1
In Science this week, we have been learning about the different parts of leaves. We went on a leaf hunt and collected samples to compare. The children then drew and labelled their leaves using key scientific vocabulary. 🍃 Excellent work, Year 1!

Year 2
Year 2 have been exploring mini beasts in different microhabitats. They successfully classified the creatures they found using the groups we have been learning about, including insects, molluscs, crustaceans, myriapods, and arachnids. Great fieldwork skills—well done, Year 2!

Year 3
This week in PE, we continued developing our counterbalance skills. The children worked collaboratively to create sequences using different heights and balances. Super teamwork and creativity, Year 3!

Year 5
In Maths, Year 5 have been learning how to calculate the perimeter and area of compound shapes. Today, they worked in pairs to design a bedroom, ensuring they followed specific guidelines, including a perimeter between 18–30m. We were impressed with their use of trial and error to refine their designs and solve problems. Well done, Year 5! 📏🛏️

Year 6
Well done to Year 6 for completing their SATs this week. We are incredibly proud of their effort, resilience, and positive attitude throughout. To celebrate, they enjoyed a special breakfast this morning to mark the end of SATs week. Fantastic effort, Year 6!
