I’m occasionally asked what tutoring looks like for the students I work with, so I thought I’d share this.
Sessions are calm and face to face.
We work at the student’s pace, with clear structure and no pressure to perform.
I support:
• Autistic and neurodivergent learners
• Students who feel anxious or overwhelmed at school
• KS2 and KS3 maths
I’m not the right fit for every child — and that’s okay — but when the match is right, learning can feel safer and more manageable.
I’m based in Totton and work locally. If you’re wondering whether this kind of support might suit your child, you’re welcome to get in touch.

A small reminder from a session this week: some children don’t need more explanations — they need more time.
When pressure is reduced, confidence often appears on its own. 🙂

Over the last few years of teaching and tutoring children, I’ve noticed a pattern in the sessions that seem to work best.
The children I connect with most are often the ones who find school overwhelming — bright, thoughtful learners who may be autistic or neurodivergent, and who need lessons to feel calm, predictable, and safe before learning can happen.
I’ve learned that progress for these children doesn’t come from pushing harder. It comes from slowing down, reducing pressure, and building trust first.
I’m not a therapist, and I don’t believe in trying to “fix” children. My role is simply to support learning in a way that respects how each child thinks and processes the world.
Going forward, I’ll be focusing more of my tutoring work on supporting neurodivergent learners with literacy, using gentle, structured approaches that prioritise confidence and understanding.
If you’re a parent of a neurodiverse child, or a professional who works with children like this, please contact me to discuss how I can support your child.

It was lovely to see Nicola Collings from Forest 1st Tutoring with her students at Waterstones yesterday. They have published some awesome books with all proceeds going to charity. The books are a great read, with some of my clients already expressing a huge interest in reading them to completion.

Homework! 📝
A word that can bring on a migraine for many parents! Having the right equipment or knowledge of current methods is another thing to consider.
Child B used to get anxious about returning to school after the weekend to hand in his work. Now he feels confident and proud since receiving professional support.
If you are struggling to help your child with their homework, please contact me to see how I can support you. 😊
