Garden Area Update – A Harvest to Celebrate!

We are delighted to say that we are finally reaping the rewards of all the seeds sown in our garden area.

Although everything has developed a little later than usual due to the prolonged periods of heavy rain and downpours earlier in the season, followed by the recent heatwave, our organically grown crops are now thriving.

We are enjoying a bumper crop of courgettes, and our freshly cut lettuce has been making its way to the local community shop for everyone to enjoy. We were especially proud to hear this week that our produce is "as good as Riverford's" – and even better value!
So, if you see our young gardeners in the playground or spot our fresh vegetables on sale in the community shop, why not treat yourself to some delicious, locally grown produce for your tea? Every purchase helps celebrate the hard work and dedication of our budding gardeners.

The garden is also bursting with beautiful blooms. Towering gladioli, magnificent hydrangeas, vibrant fire-red crocosmia, bee-friendly borage, cheerful Californian poppies and glorious dahlias are providing a feast of colour while attracting bees, butterflies and other important pollinators.

A huge well done to all of our young gardeners for their enthusiasm and hard work. We look forward to seeing what the rest of the growing season brings!

Recent contractors and visitors to our school site said, 'It's the best outside school environment they have ever seen!'

We are glad everyone including the bees can enjoy the flowers and harvest of our organically grown garden.

This week, we were incredibly proud of two of our Year 6 pupils who represented our school at the Pupil Voice Conference at KEVICC.

They confidently presented to pupils from other ESW schools, as well as ESW senior leaders, about their roles as House Captains and the impact of pupil leadership within our school. They explained how all pupils are involved in the democratic process of making fundraising decisions and shared the pride they take in representing the school by welcoming visitors, sharing their experiences and ideas, and celebrating the achievements (both in and out of school) of their peers.

They spoke with maturity, confidence and passion, and were excellent ambassadors for our school.

☀️🌡️ Hot Weather Expected This Week 🌡️☀️

With the warm weather set to continue this week, please help us to keep all of our children safe, comfortable and ready to learn by ensuring they come to school prepared for the heat.

✅ Please send your child to school with a named water bottle.
✅ A sun hat is strongly recommended.
✅ Sun cream - If possible, please apply sun cream before school each morning.
✅ Please try to keep shoulders covered up - T-shirts rather than vests.

Children may wear their PE kit to school if this is more comfortable during the hotter weather.

Staff will continue to monitor temperatures and ensure that outdoor activities are adapted where necessary to keep children safe and comfortable.

Thank you for your support in helping us keep everyone safe and comfortable while enjoying the sunshine.

☀️ Stay cool and keep hydrated! ☀️
