Book your tour👇 sdsteiner.org/school-tour South Devon Steiner School is an independent school delivering the Steiner (Waldorf) curriculum, to children from birth to 16 (with active plans to extend provision to 18 years and beyond). The main school is an old manor house and this is set in spacious gardens, nestled in a lush, green valley on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. Early Years have their

own purpose built Kindergartens which are nourishing and warm with large, enclosed and safe outdoor spaces. SDSS offers a variety of courses including one in Biodynamic agriculture. We also have a long established and successful Summer Language School which is open to Waldorf students from around the world. SDSS is currently building a traditional oak frame and straw bale 'Bunk House' to accommodate visitors to school, and has recently completed a Bio-mass boiler which now efficiently heats the school.

Class 3 had the most wonderful Farm Camp at the wonderfully generous Hall Farm Dartmoor where the class spent four days working closely with the land and experiencing the rhythms of farm life firsthand.

The children took part in:

- Milking cows
- Making cheese, yoghurt, and whey caramel from the morning milk
- Dry stone wall repair
- Nurturing the hedgerows through tree care
- Making a special fertiliser preparation

Alongside the practical work, there was plenty of time for play, imagination, and the ongoing evolution of the class’s new cow-herding game, and we were even gifted a wonderful succession of rainbows, including some that seemed to land right in our field for us to chase. 🌈

In Steiner education, the Class 3 year is often supported through grounding, practical experiences that help children connect more deeply with the world around them. Working with animals, soil, food, shelter, and the natural environment offers meaningful opportunities for responsibility, cooperation, perseverance, and growing confidence.

This camp was a beautiful example of learning through real experience, and of meeting children with the right curriculum at the right stage of development.

A heartfelt thank you to Hall Farm Dartmoor for their generosity, warmth, and the unforgettable experiences they shared with our class. 🌿

Every school year ends with our End of Year Ceremony, a much loved tradition that brings the whole school community together. 🌿

Together, we celebrate another year of learning, mark important transitions, and recognise those moving on to new chapters.
Class 5 and Class 8 step into the next stage of their journey, and we celebrate our graduating Class 12 students.

The ceremony also reminds us that education is not just about academic achievement alone. It is about belonging, relationships, gratitude, and recognising the growth of every child as they journey through the school.

As another wonderful year draws to a close, we wish all our families, staff, students, alumni, and friends a restful summer.

Thank you for being part of our community.

Until September. 🤍

Sports Day at South Devon Steiner School looks a little different.

Rather than competing only within year groups, every team is made up of students from Class 1 through to Class 12. Older students naturally encourage and support younger ones, while younger children gain confidence from taking part alongside those further along in their school journey.

Parents and teachers join in too, creating a day filled with challenge, teamwork, laughter and encouragement.

While there are certainly winners, the day is about much more than results. It is about courage, perseverance, leadership, encouragement and belonging.

🏛️ The annual Greek Olympics are a much-loved milestone in the Steiner curriculum, and at the end of June, our Class 5 were delighted to take part alongside hundreds of Steiner Waldorf students from across the UK.

Rooted in the Ancient Greek Olympics, they bring together movement, history, community, and character in a way that is unique to Steiner education.

Over several days, the children trained, camped, learned, and shared the experience with students from schools across the country before coming together for the Games themselves.

Rather than focusing on winning or competition alone, the emphasis is on meeting a challenge wholeheartedly, encouraging one another, and discovering what each child is capable of through courage, perseverance, grace, and teamwork.

As one parent beautifully reflected, "the greatest achievements can't always be measured."

Every child returns with memories that extend far beyond the arena - new friendships, renewed confidence, and the experience of being part of something much bigger than themselves.

Congratulations to our Class 5, and thank you to everyone who helped make this unforgettable milestone possible. 🌿
