We often tell our walkers and students about the military use of Dartmoor National Park. There are 3 military ranges on the Western side of Dartmoor used for tactical training; red flags fly from flagpoles on high ground (here also a red light on the top to signal at night) next to the ranges to warn walkers not to enter when there is live ammunition firing. A continuous line of red and white poles also marks the entrance to the military range. These attached from the Merrivale range near Princetown, with Lydford Tor in the background.

Our anniversary course from 13 September 2026 will include a special early visit to Brixham fish market at 06:00 to see the variety of fish bought and sold at what is now England’s biggest fish market.  All followed up with a special fishy English breakfast at Rockfish restaurant in Brixham.  All part of a full English experience 😊 These photos from our last visit in 2017!

2026 marks 20 years of our organizing 50+ courses in Devon. From the beginning in 2006 we have always tried to find something just that little bit more special, to create memories that last a lifetime. From 2006 we had the great luck to be invited to visit the amazing (and very private and exclusive) Redlap house, near Dartmouth. For about 4 years every group was enchanted by the visit, guided round the gardens by the owner and their gardener, and treated to a cream tea afterwards. This was the standout trip of its day. Every year we add and introduce new ‘specials’ so the programme has evolved constantly, the latest version to try runs from 13 -27 September – our special anniversary course.
