Slapton Ley Field Centre is located in a spectacular location to study and experience the amazing geography and ecology of the coastline, Dartmoor National Park and the nearby coastal towns.

Do you have the skills and confidence to take the lead in maintaining a busy learning centre in a stunning natural setting? 🌊

We’re looking for a proactive and capable Maintenance Officer to join our team at Field Studies Council Slapton.

What you’ll be doing...

You will take the lead in keeping our centre safe, compliant and running smoothly. This is a busy, active role requiring hands‑on maintenance skills and the ability to carry out manual handling tasks.

As a senior member of the team, you will take responsibility for the overall maintenance and improvement of our buildings, grounds, and essential site systems.

A massive thanks to the youth groups and FSC Tutors which came and gave the NNR team a hand out on the reserve!

The Gold DofE and John Muir Award Participants really got stuck in, helping with the reed bed management and invasive Himalayan Balsam. It was great to see such enthusiasm from everyone in spite of the heat!

We had so much fun on the Conservation and Zookeeping Youth Course last week 🌿

The participants spent a day experiencing conservation work on the Nature Reserve, doing some balsam bashing and reed bed management. We had a great behaviour management workshop delivered by Plymouth University and a camp out at Dartmoor zoo. They had a great time canoeing on the Ley and learning about water quality with Dave Halsall 🛶

Our Festival of Nature is soon 🌿
Celebrate the wildlife, landscapes, and heritage of South Devon while enjoying hands-on activities, expert talks, great food, and a welcoming atmosphere. Bring your family, friends, and sense of adventure!

This year we are running a free pick-up and drop-off service for anyone who would like it. This will be running from the Tank Car Park in Torcross.
We also have a Park and Walk from the Start Bay Centre to reduce driving through the village.

We look forward to seeing you there!
