Based in the market town of Totnes, I specialise in designing and making leather & cork accessories.

Debbie MacPherson Atelier is the creation of designer/maker Debbie MacPherson, a graduate of the prestigious Cordwainers College, London. All items are designed and handcrafted in her workshop in Totnes, South Devon using the highest quality Italian leather and substantial saddlery fittings. "The quality of the product is paramount to us, in this world of throw-away products, we aim for our designs to be classic, wearable and become like a trusty old friend." A recent commission of a ‘Midi Christie’ bag in a beautiful dark aniline leather with solid brass hardware. The natural markings on the leather add real depth and character….a timeless classic.

Same overnight bag, two completely different looks….
These bespoke commissions were both collected last Saturday and they couldn’t have been more different in their approach…
The first customer went for a classic, traditional look using rich contrasting brown leathers paired with solid brass hardware to create a beautiful autumnal look.
The second customer wanted an altogether more contemporary style, choosing a smooth Royal blue leather with contrasting orange stitching and silver hardware to create a clean, sporty look.
The options are endless when creating a bespoke bag.

A bespoke order of an equestrian inspired Holdall for a student about to embark on a new adventure in London.
This customer had very definite ideas of what he wanted from his first uni bag. The key feature had to be a ‘horse bit’ fitting and I managed to source this beautiful solid brass one from a rocking horse supplier!
The bag has flexible rolled leather handles and a detachable shoulder strap with a brass zip closure and solid brass base feet.
The interior features a padded laptop pouch and a spacious zip pocket.
The leather is a rich grained Italian cows leather that I have recently added to the leather collection and have proven to be super popular.
I’m always amazed and grateful that customers put their faith in me to bring to life their ideas and craft a bag that they’re not able to see until it’s made!

I’ve been a bit quieter on the socials in recent months as I usually do my non-making tasks outside of workshop hours, but instead I’ve been using lot of my spare time dragging myself up and down the bay training for the Torbay Half Marathon on 20th September!

It’s my first half marathon and a bucket list thing I’d like to tick off before reaching the big 5-0 next year, anyone that knows me knows that I’m not particularly a naturally athletic person so it’s going to be quite a challenge.
I’m super proud to be running in aid of . I’d like to raise as much money as possible towards improving the lives of children all around the world, many in war torn countries or living through natural disasters as well as in the UK.

It’s been all about the bespoke Classic Tote’s in the workshop recently.
Here’s a couple of the recent orders in the shoulder strap version ….
Vintage Lace with Dark Olive straps & base
All Royal Blue with a traditional South African Shweshwe fabric lining.

A recent bespoke commission of the small backpack…
Made from hot pink leather with solid brass hardware and a striking lining made from pink Shweshwe fabric I bought on my travels to South Africa.
Due to a back issue the customer requested wider straps to add more support.

This chocolate tote bag is one of my recent bespoke commissions.
It was a 21st birthday gift, designed to be used as her first professional ‘work bag’. We aimed for the design to be classic with a padded interior pocket for the laptop.
The customer requested rolled handles which I think balances the bag perfectly.
