Dear Parents and Carers,

As you are aware, today is another very hot day. We are therefore repeating the message sent yesterday regarding the option to collect your children early if you feel this would be best.

A 2, 3, 4 year old can regulate their body temperature, but not as efficiently as an adult. While they are able to sweat to cool down and shiver to warm up, their smaller bodies mean they can overheat or become chilled much more quickly in extreme weather. Yesterday the children coped incredibly well, but many of them became quite tired in the afternoon due to the heat.

If you would prefer to collect your child earlier today, you are very welcome to do so. Your support helps us keep everyone comfortable and safe during this warm weather.

Dear Parents,

We wanted to let you know that with the very high temperatures today in Torquay, we are doing everything we can to keep the children calm, cool, and relaxed. This includes regular rest breaks, plenty of drinks, and keeping them out of direct sun as much as possible.

Despite these measures, the temperature in our room is still rising. We want to reassure you that we are not closing, but if you would prefer to pick your child up early, that is absolutely fine.

Some children have been coming up to staff saying things like “I’m really hot” or “I’m really thirsty,” which is fantastic to see. We are very proud of them for communicating their needs so clearly. For the children who are not yet able to communicate this verbally, please be assured that staff are checking on them regularly and monitoring them closely to make sure they remain comfortable, hydrated, and safe.

Please can we ask that children come into preschool with suncream already applied and sun hats. The weather is looking hot and we have the ice and water play ready ☀️
