For what it is worth, I have tried to list the top perspectives that helped me on my path to releasing trauma and getting on with a calm, connected and happy life (where possible).

- The realisation that my past need not define my future - it was what I did in the now (and who I was being in the now) that would affect my future.

- I had to separate the story of what happened to me from the trauma (stuck energy) it had created within me. I had to stop being consciously addicted to my old unconscious stories and allow that stuck trauma/energy to flow out of me.

- I had to learn how to forgive people (and myself), not for what they did, but because I didn't want to keep beating myself up with those old stories each day, anymore.

- I had to learn that trauma release can be gentle, but may also be quite explosive and loud, too. I needed to find places or people who were okay to facilitate those explosive releases. I began to recognise that some of my panic attacks were actually this trauma rising up, which, though it felt bad and I tried to avoid, it was positive and my path to freedom.

- I had to learn that it was possible to rewrite bad memories and (to a certain extent) erase them. Why would I want horrible stories running in my brain? (This was very hard, but possible.)

- I had to learn that some of my trauma was hidden from my conscious mind, so I had to go hunting for it - perhaps from when I was a baby, so I had no memory or just good old unconscious repression.

- I had to learn that my behaviours set up a virtual story in other people's brains from what I said and how I behaved, which they used as a template on how to treat me; therefore, I needed to reprogram them through new narratives and behaviours.

- I had to retrain my own brain from being pessimistic and looking for the worst to being optimistic and hoping for the best, as that meant, in the now, I felt better (regardless of what might happen in the future).

- I had to learn that, yes, there are bad people out there, but in my opinion, there are many more good people out there, too.

- I had to let go of guilt and shame, as they were acts of self-abuse—either by believing a person who was trying to guilt me, or guilting myself.

Just what helped me. John.
