Bear Beginnings

It was a dark and stormy night, the ghosts were ready to scare, the pumpkins were alight-what a warming site, come out and play if you dare💀👻🎃

It was a dark and stormy night on Star Bear Island
The haunted house stood out against the dark sky
The bears and numbers were getting ready for Halloween
The monsters and ghosts were getting ready to SCARE!

The bears were going to go into the haunted house!

It was a dark and stormy night.
They crept along the dark and creepy path, towards the dark house.
They pushed the gate and it gave a long loud growl as it swung slowly open.
The bears all huddled closer together as they carefully crept through the gate and closer to the dark and creepy house.

When they reached the haunted house, they lifted the large knocker on the door and let it go.
There was a very loud bang as the knocker hit the door.
The door opened slowly, creaking and groaning as it opened wider – but there was nobody there! The bats on the roof quickly hid in the eaves of the roof when they heard the loud noise which had disturbed their sleep.

The bears slowly crept into the dark creepy hall. Cobwebs brushed against their little faces and they quickly wiped them off. Spiders were hanging from the webs higher up watching the bears as they walked along the dark and scary hall, their eyes shining in the dark.

The bears carefully walked up the large curving staircase, making sure they didn’t trip in the dark. The house was making lots of different sounds but the bears were brave and tried not to look scared in front of each other.

They got to the top of the staircase and saw a long and dark corridor. They began to walk along the dark corridor, being as quiet as they could. They walked to the very end of the dark corridor and saw a dark dark curtain. They pushed the dark dark curtain out of the way with a loud swish and they saw a big dark box on the floor.
They went closer to the big dark box and slowly, very very very slowly, began to open it!

All of a sudden, the lid of the big dark box flew open and out jumped some of the Number Rascals all dressed in their Halloween costumes.

The bears leapt up and ran as fast as their little furry legs could go, back down the staircase, out through the front door and didn’t stop until they were back in their houses.

The number rascals thought it was so funny, scaring the alphabet bears like that and could not stop giggling.
Suddenly, they saw something that was white and floating along the path they were just about to walk along.

They thought that it was the bears trying to scare them back – but no ………… it was a g h o s t!!!!!!
The number rascals ran as fast as they could back to their tree houses, and promised never to scare the bears like that again, they had seen a real ghost and that was enough to scare anyone !!

Explain to your child that letters have sounds to help make words. They also have names so we can find them when we need them. Simply repeat the letter sound and then the name - ‘a’, ‘a’ ‘ay’. With just a few sounds children can begin to make consonant-vowel-consonant words (cvc words). 🙂🐻

Some children as old as 9 years old are unable to complete a simple dictionary exercise in class as they have no idea which letters sit next to each other in the alphabet. 🐻

Why aren’t schools and Early Years settings teaching letter sounds in alphabetical order? Children don’t need more confusion - let’s make things easier for them! 🙂🐻

Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank and having nothing to do. Once or twice she peeped into the book her sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversation in it, and what is the use of a book, thought Alice, if it didn’t have pictures or conversation …………….
