🚗 Learner drivers — important update about swapping driving tests

The DVSA has introduced new rules around swapping driving test bookings with another learner driver.

A test swap is not the same as changing your test date. It means you and another learner exchange your existing test slots.

Key things to know:

✅ From **12 May 2026**, only the learner can swap their own car driving test
❌ Driving instructors, websites or third parties cannot swap tests for you
📞 Swaps can only be done by phone through DVSA
🔁 A swap counts as **1 of your 2 allowed test changes**
📅 You must request the swap at least **10 full working days** before the earliest test
📍 From **9 June 2026**, location rules will also apply, meaning swaps will usually need to be with someone at the same test centre, one of your 3 nearest test centres, or the test centre you originally booked at

Before agreeing to a swap, please check with your instructor first. You need to make sure you are ready for the new date and that your instructor is available for the test centre, date and time.

Also, never share personal details like your driving licence number, address, phone number, email or card details with another learner.

"The most important criteria when choosing my driving school was that I would be able to fit my driving lessons into my college schedule, so that they wouldn’t clash.

Learning to drive was more difficult than I first expected but after a while I was able to relax more when driving. James’ teaching methods were outstanding, he always was patient with me to work on areas that needed improvement and adapted and explained things in way that would be easier for me to understand.

I would recommend Williams Driving School as I have never had any issues during my time learning and I was able to work driving into my schedule of work and school.

I honestly think that there were no areas where the service could be improved as I really enjoyed my experience".

"The main criteria when choosing Williams Driving School was having an instructor who would make me feel comfortable and who pushed me to believe that I could do it .

My driving instructor was James, he was amazing , I appreciate the time he spent with me and teaching me all the things that I needed to know in an easy and understandable way and I was a lot more confident then I expected to be".

Well done to Paul Clifford from Paignton for passing his practical driving test FIRST TIME on the 30th of July

Having his licence will help get to work and when basketball ball season starts . It will also help his family been able to give lifts to them .

Well done to Cameron Jones of Torquay for passing his practical driving test at the FIRST attempt on Friday 11th of July.

Having his licence will help him with work and take his family out and not rely on family and friends. Cameron worked really hard to achieve his goal after been let down by other instructors
