Looking for a fun challenge this summer?

The Torbay Twilight Kids’ 1.5K is taking place on Friday 21st August at Torbay Velopark, and it’s open to children aged 4–14 of all abilities.

Whether you’re a keen runner, enjoy taking part in sports, or simply fancy trying something new, this is a fantastic event. Every child receives a finisher’s medal, and the traffic-free course makes it a brilliant family evening out.

At Abbey, we love seeing our pupils embracing new challenges, showing resilience and, most importantly, enjoying being active.

If any of our Abbey children are taking part, we’d love to see your photos afterwards—don’t forget to tag us! 💙🦢

Torbay Twilight 1.5k kids race

We are delighted to announce that we have fallen in line with parkrun and we are accepting entries from 4yr old to 14 for our 1.5km race.
We have paid out for the kids race to be chipped timed aswell, which has allowed us to accommodate the younger age group.

Prizes will be awarded for top 3 boy and girl:
U14
U11
U8
U6

Races are likely to start at 1min intervals from 6:15.

📚 Abbey School is taking part in the National Read-Aloud Challenge 2026! 🎉

We’re excited to be joining this fantastic national initiative celebrating the power of reading aloud.

Reading together is one of the simplest and most effective ways to build children’s vocabulary, confidence, imagination and a lifelong love of books. Whether it’s a bedtime story, a chapter of a favourite novel or taking turns reading together, every read-aloud moment makes a difference.

💜 We’d love as many Abbey families as possible to sign up and take part. It’s a fun way to encourage reading at home while supporting your child’s learning.

🎨 Year 5 have been exploring the vibrant world of batik art!

Inspired by the colourful work of artist Lisa King, our Year 5 pupils experimented with bold patterns, layered colours and striking designs to create their own beautiful batik-inspired artwork.

The finished pieces are full of creativity, individuality and careful attention to detail. We are so proud of the imagination and perseverance the children showed throughout the project—each piece is completely unique!

This year, we invited our pupils to design the next generation of Abbey House flags—and the response was incredible!

Every design was created by one of our talented pupils before being voted on by both pupils and staff. After some very difficult decisions, four winning designs were chosen to proudly represent Torre ❤️, Tavistock 💛, Buckland 💙 and Syon 💚.

We’re so proud that our new House identities have been created by the children, for the children. They made their debut at this year’s Sports Day, where they led each House with pride, and they’ll now become a lasting part of Abbey life for years to come.

Congratulations to our four talented winners, and thank you to everyone who entered. The creativity and care shown in every design made this a competition to remember.

Today we said goodbye to our wonderful Year 6 pupils as they begin the next chapter of their journey.

It has been a privilege to watch each of you grow into confident, kind and resilient young people. You leave Abbey with so many happy memories, lasting friendships and a bright future ahead.

As you move on to secondary school, remember the Abbey Values of Respect, Resilience and Responsibility. Believe in yourselves, embrace every opportunity and never stop being the amazing young people you are.

🎢 One Last Adventure Together! 💙

Before they say goodbye to primary school, our Year 6 pupils enjoyed one final adventure together at Crealy! From thrilling rides and plenty of laughter to making memories with friends, it was the perfect way to celebrate everything they’ve shared over the years.

As their time at Abbey draws to a close, we’re so pleased they had the chance to enjoy this special day together. These are the moments they’ll remember long after they’ve left our gates.

We’re so proud of every one of them and can’t wait to celebrate their final week with them. 💙

🕵️ Year 6 stepped into the world of Agatha Christie!

As part of their busy final few weeks at Abbey, our Year 6 pupils enjoyed a fantastic creative writing workshop at Torre Abbey, exploring the rooms that inspired the Queen of Crime.

From solving clues and examining evidence to trying on 1920s costumes and creating their own mystery ideas, the children were fully immersed in the experience while developing their creative writing skills.

A huge thank you to the team at Torre Abbey for such an engaging and memorable day!
