Just got home delivering rustler 42 from Portland to Vigo Spain. Toby was delivering a hunter legend and a few miles from us when he had an encounter with a pod of orca. They bash his rudder till it snapped off. Here's a good advert for not having a composite rudder stock.

Looking for a skipper/engineer for small charter co in the Greek islands. Practical fixit skills are top of the list, as our current engineer is retiring and we need someone to fill his technical shoes!

Didn't use this diesel tank on our around Britain last year so what's the point of dragging it about? Can't afford diesel anyway and we don't need it. Anyone out there need a 200 L diesel tank?

Check out these dolphin from last week. We are ghosting under a screecher at about 2 knots. This huge pod stopped to play, but they had to slow right down to do so

Arg! Crevice corrosion. This was a stainless shackle on a water stay. Result, bent bowsprit. Don't use stainless where it matters I guess.

Well kicking and screaming Top Cat is gearing up for teaching sailing in the 21st century. Yes we still keep a diesel so you can still learn all about water pumps and bleeding the air out, but just like the road we all need to get used to the idea that the internal combustion engine has had its day. Out goes a diesel and in goes an electric drive and huge solar array. So now you also learn about how to use the battery power and how to regenerate that power when sailing. Yes the featherstream prop regenerates. Don't worry we are keeping the diesel tank "for now" so still have our 1000 mile range at 5 knots if there's not a breath.

latest legislation Clean-Maritime Plan that states..

By 2025 we expect that:

i. All vessels operating in UK waters are maximising the use of energy efficiency options. All new vessels being ordered for use in UK waters are being designed with zero emission propulsion capability. Zero emission commercial vessels are in operation in UK waters.
So do we go electric?

Cats have a reputation for making a terrible ammount of leeway. So we headed out yesterday to try to measure it. Two reefs and 2/3 number 3 jib and sailing at 8 knots here. Great weather! However I don't think you can make out even a degree of wake up to windward. We need a slower catamaran! Go fast and cats make negligable leeway
