Wild Edge

Wild Edge Wild Edge 🌱 Your guide to nature connection! Offering wild food courses, transforming verges & gardens, & fighting food poverty. Fall in love with the hedgerow.

We're on a mission to build communities & rebuild lost biodiversity. Discover wild food & unleash your inner forager! We are a social enterprise that provides communities with wild food education, through foraging walks, cookery classes, and free food initiatives. Alongside this work, we also seek to preserve and share the knowledge of heritage crafts. A percentage of profit made from our ticketed

walks and courses allows us to provide the same service, for free, to those experiencing local food poverty in our community. We believe that all people should have access to wild food education and the confidence to access nutritious, sustainable, local, fresh food. For every walk or course you purchase from The Family Foraging Kitchen – you help to provide a local Cornish family the skills to find free food forever. There is a good deal of fear and misinformation surrounding the use and consumption of wild plants, and we believe the best way to combat this is to share knowledge about how these plants can be used. Modern agricultural methods have meant that foraging, once a part of our ancestral daily life, has faded away, replaced by regular family trips to the supermarket. We are now disconnected from the food that we eat. Given the ecological, social and environmental crisis that we now face globally, humanity needs to - rather urgently and radically - examine its relationship with food and how we acquire it. Foraging is about more than just food and nourishment; it gets us out into the countryside, helps to cultivate an intimate appreciation of nature, lets us explore history, science and folklore; can bond families, strengthen communities and reestablish connections severed by modern life. Inspire younger generations to learn traditional skills and knowledge. Get truly wild in your kitchen. Take an edible journey and explore the beautiful Rame Peninsula.

🌱💚 HELP SHAPE AN EXCITING NEW COMMUNITY PROJECT! 💚🌱

Rooted Futures, alongside other local organisations, are exploring the possibility of creating a new community growing project – and they want local people to help shape what it could look like! 🌻🥕🌿

💙 Beat4Autism have been invited to be involved to help ensure that the voices, needs and ideas of the SEND community are included from the very beginning.

And this is where we need your help! 🙌

All we're asking is for just 3 minutes of your time to complete a short, anonymous questionnaire.

Your answers will help the team understand what local people would like from a community growing project, what might encourage you to get involved, and how it can be made as welcoming, accessible and inclusive as possible. 🌈

⏱️ Just 3 minutes
🔒 Completely anonymous
🌱 Help shape something new for our community

🌾 MILLBROOK CLOSED CEMETERY – LATE SUMMER RAKE & BALE UP 🌾

Monday 31st August | 11am–1pm

Come and lend a hand looking after this beautiful little piece of Millbrook. 🌼🐝

Following the late-summer meadow cut, we need some willing volunteers to help rake up and remove the cut grass.

Why remove it? Leaving cuttings behind returns nutrients to the soil and can smother smaller plants. Raking and removing them gradually lowers soil fertility, helping prevent vigorous grasses from dominating and giving wildflowers and greater biodiversity a chance to thrive. This type of meadow management takes place in closed cemeteries and churchyards across Cornwall.

The grass will be gathered into piles/bales and CORMAC will collect it afterwards.

🌿 Everything is official and approved: I’m a registered CORMAC volunteer and the work is being carried out with permission, insurance, risk assessment and the appropriate paperwork in place.

It’s also a lovely opportunity to visit or find a family grave, gently tidy around it if you wish, or simply spend a couple of hours caring for a peaceful and historic part of our village. ❤️

☕ I’ll provide: tea, coffee, drinking water and cake!

🌾 Please bring:

• A grass rake if you have one
• Gardening gloves
• Strong footwear
• Clothes for the Cornish weather!

No experience needed and no pressure to work at breakneck speed — come for as much or as little as you can manage. We’ll of course work respectfully around all graves and memorials.
Healthy meadow, cared-for cemetery, tea, cake and community.

What a beautiful thing it is to volunteer. ❤️🌾🐝

Savoury blackberry pizza sauce

Enough for about 3–4 pizzas

Ingredients

300g blackberries
1 small red onion or 2 shallots, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1–2 tsp brown sugar or honey — optional, depending on how sweet the berries are
½ tsp salt
Plenty of black pepper
½ tsp dried thyme or a few fresh thyme leaves
Pinch of chilli flakes
Optional: 1 tsp tomato purée — this makes it feel slightly more recognisably “pizza sauce” without overpowering the blackberry

Method

Gently fry the onion in the olive oil for about 5–7 minutes, until really soft.
Add the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
Add the blackberries, balsamic, salt, pepper, thyme and chilli.
Cook gently for 10–15 minutes, squashing the berries as they collapse.
Add the tomato purée if using and simmer until you’ve got a thick, glossy sauce — you don’t want it watery or it’ll make the pizza soggy.
Taste it. You’re looking for sharp, fruity, salty and savoury, not blackberry jam. Add a tiny bit of sugar/honey only if it’s too tart.
Blend it smooth. If you don’t want blackberry pips in the sauce, push it through a sieve afterwards.
