Year 7 girls’ had attended their first netball fixture at Budehaven School, with eight schools attending and 15 teams competing overall.

This is always a lovely fixture, organised by Budehaven to introduce students to competitive netball in a welcoming and supportive environment. With nearly 50 students attending our Year 7 netball club, selecting just 15 players was incredibly difficult. We were delighted to take two teams, Torpoint 1 and Torpoint 2, who represented the college brilliantly from the very first whistle.

The girls showed incredible pride, teamwork and determination throughout the afternoon. They created their own team chants, encouraged one another between games and celebrated each other’s successes. Their support for one another was genuinely moving, and as their PE teacher, I could not have been prouder of the way they represented Torpoint.

Torpoint 1 – 1st Overall!
Team: Darcy (C), Alma (WA), Zennor (GA), Faye (GS), Nancy (WD), Edie (GD) and Ivy (GK).

Torpoint 1 had an outstanding afternoon, finishing 1st overall out of all 15 teams!
• vs Saltash 1 – Won 3–2: A fantastic opening win, with Darcy named Player of the Match.
• vs Holsworthy – Won 7–1: A brilliant attacking performance, with Zennor earning Player of the Match.
• vs Looe 1 – Won 4–1: Another strong team performance, with Zennor named Player of the Match again.
• vs Launceston 1 – Won 5–0: A superb result and clean sheet, with Nancy taking Player of the Match.
• vs Bude – Won 2–1: A closely fought game in which the girls showed great composure, with Alma named Player of the Match.
• vs Sir James Smith – Drew 1–1: The girls finished their matches with a competitive draw, with Darcy earning Player of the Match.

The team demonstrated excellent consistency throughout the fixture, combining confident attacking play with determined defending to secure an impressive unbeaten record.

Torpoint 2 – 3rd in Their Pool!
Team: Mya (C), Valentina (WA), Lily (GA), Thea and Lizzy (GS), Elena (WD), Grace (GD) and Penelope (GK).

Torpoint 2 also had a fantastic afternoon, showing real determination and making excellent progress across their games.
• vs Launceston – Drew 1–1: A positive start to the fixture.
• vs Liskeard 1 – Lost 0–1: A closely contested match, with Valentina named Player of the Match.
• vs Sir James Smith – Won 2–0: A brilliant win and clean sheet, with Valentina earning Player of the Match again.
• vs Looe 2 – Won 3–0: An excellent all-round performance, with Elena named Player of the Match.
• vs Holsworthy 2 – Lost 0–1: Another tight game, with Penelope recognised as Player of the Match for her efforts.

The girls worked incredibly hard, supported each other throughout and showed great resilience in some very close matches. Their efforts were rewarded with 3rd place in their pool, a brilliant achievement for their first school fixture! Unfortunately, the competition ran out of time, meaning four additional rounds could not be played. However, this did not take away from what was a brilliant introduction to competitive school netball.

To finish 1st overall with Torpoint 1 and 3rd in their pool with Torpoint 2 is a fantastic achievement, and every player should be incredibly proud. More importantly, the girls demonstrated exactly what we want to see at Torpoint: teamwork, resilience, encouragement, and pride in representing their college.

A huge well done to all 15 girls for such a memorable first fixture. With nearly 50 students attending Year 7 netball club, the enthusiasm for the sport is wonderful to see, and I am excited to watch these girls continue to develop throughout the year.

Please congratulate our Year 7 students if you see them around college — they have done Torpoint incredibly proud!

A big thank you to Adam for coming along to support the girls at their first netball fixture. His help and encouragement throughout the afternoon were greatly appreciated and helped make it such a positive experience for the students.

What a fantastic day of netball for our two Year 9 teams at Saltash School!

Our Torpoint 2 team consisted of Myrtille (GS), Jasmine (GA), Elsie (Year 8, WA), Poppy (C), Flo (WD), Tilly S (GD) and Ella (GK).

They got off to a fantastic start against Launceston 2, taking an early lead and building confidently throughout the game to finish with a superb 10–1 victory. The attacking combination of Myrtille and Jasmine worked particularly well, with some excellent movement into space and quick passing through the court. Jasmine was a constant threat in the attacking third and was deservedly awarded player of the match.

The second game saw the girls face a very strong Saltash side. Despite the result not going their way, the girls continued to work hard, showing determination and resilience right until the final whistle. Poppy was recognised as player of the match for her leadership and work rate in the centre.

In their third game, the girls faced Launceston 1 and produced another excellent performance, winning 3–1. This was a game that showcased just how adaptable this team had become. Ella stepped out of defence to take on a shooting role, Elsie moved into centre, and Poppy dropped back into goal defence. The positional changes worked brilliantly, with everyone embracing their new roles and continuing to communicate and support each other. Ella was deservedly named player of the match after stepping up and making such an important contribution at the opposite end of the court.

Then came the game everyone had been waiting for… Torpoint 2 vs Torpoint 1.

It was a wonderfully good-natured game, with the girls laughing, cheering each other on, and showing exactly what fantastic teammates they‘re, even when playing against one another! Torpoint 2 took the lead by just one goal in a closely fought contest, 4–3. There were more positional changes, with Tilly S stepping into GS, Myrtille moving to GA and Jasmine taking on the centre role, while Poppy captained the team. Everyone adapted brilliantly, and Tilly S made some excellent drives into the D, moving the ball towards goal. Elsie was awarded player of the match for her movement around court.

Our Torpoint 1 team was Tilly P (C), Emma (WA), Isla (GA), Zennor (GS), Olivia (WD), Jazelle (GD) and Pearl (GK).

The girls started their tournament against Launceston 1 and immediately showed their intent. They took control of the game and refused to let Launceston back into the contest, finishing with an impressive 4–0 victory. Zennor, our Year 7 student stepping up to play with the team, showed fantastic confidence and composure and was deservedly named player of the match.

Their second game was against Launceston 2, where the girls again put on a dominant attacking display. They built an incredible 9–0 lead, demonstrating excellent movement, passing, and shooting throughout the game. Tilly P was awarded player of the match for a fantastic performance in the centre, controlling the game and helping to link the defence and attack.

The third game was arguably one of the most exciting matches of the day. Against Saltash, the scoreline was neck and neck throughout, with both teams refusing to give an inch. The game eventually finished in a fantastic 6–6 draw. It was a brilliant example of competitive school netball, with excellent passages of play from both sides. The Saltash teachers even commented on what a great game it had been and how much of a challenge our girls had provided for their students, particularly as Saltash are a well-rehearsed team who regularly play together outside of school.

The final game brought our two Torpoint teams together. In another incredibly close contest, Pearl and Jazelle switched around in defence, adapting to the demands of the game and working hard to keep Torpoint 2's attack under pressure. The game remained incredibly close, with Torpoint 2 eventually taking the lead by one goal.

What made this day particularly special wasn't just the results or the quality of netball. It was the way the girls supported one another throughout. Despite being split across two teams- and eventually having to play against their own friends-there was never any lack of encouragement. The girls cheered for each other, congratulated one another, and created a genuinely lovely atmosphere throughout the tournament.

Even on the journey home, the girls took it upon themselves to organise their own shout-outs on the bus, making a point of thanking and congratulating the younger students who had stepped up to play alongside them. That spontaneous gesture said so much about the character of this group.

They represented the college to an incredibly high standard- not only through there netball ability, but their manners, sportsmanship, encouragement, and respect for others.

KS3 Badminton at Torbridge

On Tuesday 6th October, 15 students across Years 7,8,9 travelled to Torbridge High School for a badminton fixture.

The afternoon started with students playing competitive games and then finished with players mixing up with each other and playing friendly matches to develop their skills and knowledge of the game. It was a great afternoon, and our Year 9 girls Team took 5 from 5 wins, our Year 7/9 girls team took 2/4 wins, and our boys Y9 and Y7 teams were up against strong sides and sadly did not win. However, they still scored plenty of points and gave Torbridge a run for their money.

A big well done to the following students:

Year 9: Tilly, Isla, Niamh, Pippi, Jess, Olivia, Cayden, Jowan, Harvey

Year 8 - Isabella, Freya,

Year 7 - Edward, Ellis, Lewis, Arthur.

It was a great afternoon, and a big thanks to Mr Lowe for supporting on the fixture, and with running our Badminton Club at school.

U16 Girls Football National Cup V Ivybridge

Last night, our Year 10/11 Girls Football had a fixture against Ivybridge in the National Cup. Unfortunelty due to a variety of circumstances, 6 players were unavailable on the day which left us with 10 players. One player short from the start, with a tough fixture meant TCC already started on the back foot. Despite this, the girls were still up for the game and ready to fight in true TCC spirit.

For the first 20-minutes of the match, we held Ivybridge to 0-0, with some solid defending and great saves, they couldn’t get through. However, a few spells of good football from Ivy saw them take 3 goals before HT. A HT team talk, and a few position changes, we came out fighting for the second half. TCC dug deep, despite being a player down, and no fresh legs to come on, it was only in the last 5-minutes of the second half that Ivy scored. 4-0 final score, against a strong Ivy team, and a depleted (but very mighty!) TCC squad, the U16 girls sadly exit the National Cup.

A huge congratulations to: Eloise, Natalia, Lily Ava, Poppy , Lily, Nikita, Aimee-Gace, Lacey-Grace, Ava, and Mya! Despite a frustrating day, and 6 players unavailable, the girls still showed up and played their absolute best. A real credit to the school.

U15 Girl’s Football National Cup V Shebbear College

Our fabulous Year 9&10 Girls Football Team are through to Round 3 of the National Cup! After getting a bye in round 1, we faced Shebbear in Round 2.

We started strong, showing Shebbear we only wanted this game to go one way. Florrie made it 1-0 from an 18-yard strike. An excellent cross from Emma, connected beautifully by an Ava volley, made it 2-0. Gracie fancied getting her name on the score sheet and chipped the keeper to make it 3-0. Shebbear had a few breaks but our reliable back 4 defenders Lily Ava, Mia, Tilly Mae and Quinn, kept them away out of danger. Keeper Evie had nothing to worry about.

4 sub changes at half time, and some fresh legs from Aimee-Grace, Mya, Tilly S, and Jazelle Torpoint continued their strong performance.

Holly played a nice ball to Ava who drilled it low into the bottom corner. Florrie saw an opportunity from 20-yards out and made it 5-0. Tilly S worked hard on the wing and played a perfect cross in to the box. A keeper spill into Holly’s feet, and she netted it to make it 6-0.

Quinn was put upfront, had the ball at her feet and played it around the keeper to make it 8-0.

The final goal came from another Tilly S cross, this time for Gracie to slot home, 8-0.

A great first game for the girls this year, and what a way to start! We look forward to seeing who our opponents are in Round 3!

Thanks to Ralphie and Natalia for running the line, Mr Wood for refereeing the match, and all the staff who popped down to support. The girls certainly appreciate the support, as do I.

I am delighted to share some fantastic news.

Some more year group has collectively earned 10,000 merits so far this term. This represents 10,000 occasions when students have chosen to work hard, try their best, contribute positively to lessons, demonstrate excellent behaviour, and uphold our school values.

Reaching this milestone is a tremendous achievement and reflects the positive culture we are continuing to build across the school. We are incredibly proud of the effort, resilience and commitment shown by our students.

To recognise this success, the year groups below will be rewarded with a Mufti Day on the following dates:

· Year 10: Thursday 15th October
· Year 8: Friday 16th October
· Year 9: Friday 23rd October

Students may wear their own clothes on their allocated day. However, all clothing must remain appropriate for a school environment. We ask that outfits are suitable, safe and respectful, with no offensive slogans, images or inappropriate attire.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to celebrating this well-earned achievement with our students.

Kind regards,

Cheryl Lockett

📚👻 WOW! Our first Book of the Half-Term has been a huge success! 👻📚

We are absolutely thrilled to share that 46 students purchased a copy of Ghostlines by Katya Balen through our Book of the Half-Term initiative! 🎉

It's fantastic to see so many students excited about reading and willing to take a chance on a brand-new story. Ghostlines promises mystery, adventure, friendship and unforgettable characters, and we can't wait to hear what our young readers think once they've started exploring its secrets.

A huge thank you to all the students, families and staff who supported the initiative. Seeing such enthusiasm for reading is exactly what the National Year of Reading 2026 is all about. 📖✨

This incredible response has given our reading team plenty of motivation as we plan future Book of the Half-Term titles. If you were lucky enough to get a copy, let us know what you think when you've started reading!

👀 Keep an eye out for our next Book of the Half-Term after the half-term break! Happy reading!
