So pleased to see how much you folks have loved seeing the pictures of the goat kids. I have attached a film made yesterday of them soon after birth which I will dedicate to Little Squirrels Day Nursery and Kettlewell House Care Home who we should have been with today.
I am sorry you won't get to see them out and about on visits, but rest assured, they are having plenty of cuddles.
They were actually first discovered by the Smallest Farmer who had gone to look for eggs (the chickens hide out in the barn sometimes). She had given both kids a cuddle and was chatting away to them before she thought perhaps she should call to the rest of us to tell us they had arrived!
We were expecting them this weekend, so it is good something hasn't been thrown completely out of the calendar!
Thank you to the person who realised that whilst we try and keep all the posts upbeat, this meant there were two more mouths to feed..... we are still (just) below 200mouths to feed (including 100 chickens/ducks/turkeys/geese of various ages) but we have stopped being disappointed that we only had one goat in kid this year!
Still deciding on names though......
Mill Cottage Farm Experience
Delighted to announce our goat kids for this year....thankfully only Gloria was due to kid and she had twins just before midday today!
Gloria is a first time Mum, she gave birth alone and is looking after her two male kids well...... we just need to choose names for them now. We usually have names beginning with G or J but as this is such a strange year maybe we need to break with that. I have already vetoed Lock & Down and also Co and Vid. Have you folks got any ideas?
I make no apologies for the number of pictures I am sharing.....I am sad not many people will get to see them in person this year, so I am pleased to be able to share them here for all of you who like/follow this page :-)

Roald Dahl on Measles: "Olivia, my eldest daughter, caught measles when she was seven years old. As the illness took its usual course I can remember reading to her often in bed and not feeling particularly alarmed about it. Then one morning, when she was well on the road to recovery, I was sitting on her bed showing her how to fashion little animals out of coloured pipe-cleaners, and when it came to her turn to make one herself, I noticed that her fingers and her mind were not working together and she couldn’t do anything.
'Are you feeling all right?' I asked her.
'I feel all sleepy,' she said.
In an hour, she was unconscious. In twelve hours she was dead.
The measles had turned into a terrible thing called measles encephalitis and there was nothing the doctors could do to save her. That was...in 1962, but even now, if a child with measles happens to develop the same deadly reaction from measles as Olivia did, there would still be nothing the doctors could do to help her. On the other hand, there is today something that parents can do to make sure that this sort of tragedy does not happen to a child of theirs. They can insist that their child is immunised against measles.
...I dedicated two of my books to Olivia, the first was ‘James and the Giant Peach’. That was when she was still alive. The second was ‘The BFG’, dedicated to her memory after she had died from measles. You will see her name at the beginning of each of these books. And I know how happy she would be if only she could know that her death had helped to save a good deal of illness and death among other children."
