Earlier this year, we decided to go back to our competitive roots.
But instead of choosing a “normal” sport… we chose powerlifting. 😂
It came with a lot of learning curves, emotions and, if I’m honest, plenty of self-doubt.
I was only 5 months post shoulder surgery when I started pushing my body harder than I probably should have. Looking back, that may have played a part in me not performing quite how I wanted on the day.
But we still walked away with a BRONZE MEDAL 🥉 and invitations to compete at other events — opportunities that, unfortunately, personal circumstances mean I won’t be able to take up.
And that’s okay.
Because now the focus has changed.
The next 9–12 months are about building.
Building my strength.
Building my fitness.
Building my discipline.
Building the athlete I know is still somewhere inside me.
I want to find the athlete I was when I was younger and see just how far I can take this at 34.
The goal?
To chase European & World qualification, push some seriously big numbers, and see if I can work my way towards the Top 25–50 natural powerlifters in the UK.
And I want to do it naturally.
Not because I think there’s anything wrong with people making different choices, but because this is my challenge.
I want to prove to myself that you can still become an incredibly strong, capable athlete as you get older.
That you can train hard, eat well, recover, stay disciplined and keep chasing improvement — even when life gets busy.
And most importantly…
I want my wife and children to see what discipline, structure and commitment actually look like.
I want them to see that you don’t have to be the youngest person in the room to chase something difficult.
You just have to be willing to keep showing up.
So this is the beginning of the next chapter.
Road to European & World qualification.
Road to becoming the strongest and fittest version of myself.
And maybe… just maybe… finding that young athlete again. 😜
Let’s see what the next 12 months brings.
220 squat.
220 deadlift.
140 bench.
And we’re only getting started. 🥉💪
