🏆 Leigh Academy Hugh Christie achieves Full Accreditation for the British International School Award (2026–2029)! 🏆

We are delighted to have achieved Full Accreditation for the British Council’s International School Award, recognising our whole-school commitment to embedding a meaningful global dimension across our curriculum. 🌍

Highlights from our application included:

✨ 7 cross-curricular projects engaging students across all year groups
🌐 Collaborations with schools in Germany, Canada and India
💌 A year-long German pen pal exchange
🎨 Interdisciplinary projects exploring migration and the UN Sustainable Development Goals

These experiences give our students opportunities to learn about different countries, cultures and perspectives, build confidence communicating with people from different backgrounds, and develop the skills they will need to live and work in an increasingly connected world.

They also support our wider commitment to personal development, cultural understanding and preparing our students to become confident, respectful and informed global citizens.

A huge thank you to all of the staff, students and international partners who contributed to this achievement and continue to make global learning an important part of life at our academy. 🌍👏

What a lovely first day for our new Year 7s and Year 12s. 💙

We were delighted to welcome them to Leigh Academy Hugh Christie today and it was great to see so many smiling faces around the school.

Our Year 12 students were welcomed into Turing College and had the chance to meet some of the key staff who will support them throughout their studies. Their introductory session focused on goals and habits, thinking about how many of us may share the same ambitions, but it is the habits we build each day that help us get there.

Our Year 7's had a busy morning getting to know their advisors, finding their way around and meeting new people. They tackled a few icebreakers, including deciding what three things they would take to a desert island (with instant noodles proving a popular choice!), before designing, decorating, testing and modifying their own paper aeroplanes, incorporating our LAHC core values into their designs. They also had their first introduction to the IB Middle Years Programme.

It was especially lovely to hear their first impressions of life at LAHC, so keep watching to hear what some of our Year 7s had to say.

We’re looking forward to having everyone back with us tomorrow.

We’re incredibly proud to be celebrating alongside our fellow Leigh academies as students across the Trust achieve their best-ever GCSE results.

A huge congratulations to the Class of 2026 across Leigh Academies Trust - and to the staff, families and communities who have supported them every step of the way!

🎓A big day for our Class of 2026 🎓

Today, our Year 11 students opened the envelopes they’ve been working towards for five years – with some fantastic results across the year group.

Students achieved more than 140 grades at 6, 7, 8 and 9, with Grade 6 or above achieved in every GCSE subject.

There were some remarkable individual results too. Liza and Bode each achieved nine grades at 7 or above, while Devonne achieved six, Henry five and Leon four grades at 7 or above. Huge congratulations to them.

But today isn’t only about the highest grades. It marks the end of five years in which this group has grown up together, worked through setbacks, discovered what they’re good at and made decisions about where they want to go next.

Our Principal, Palak Shah, reflected on that today:

“Examinations are an important part of a student's journey, but they are only one measure of success. Behind every result is a young person who has developed knowledge, skills, confidence and character and today we celebrate all of those achievements.

I hope our students take time today to recognise how much they have achieved and to look forward with confidence to what comes next.”

Many of our students will be back with us in September, beginning the next stage of their education in our Sixth Form. Others will take up places at college, start apprenticeships or follow different routes that are right for them.

For today, though, this is their moment.

Class of 2026 – enjoy it, be proud of what you’ve achieved and be ambitious about what comes next.

We certainly will be.

👏✨🌟💫⭐✨👏🙌🎉
