The hot, hot Summer we’ve been having at the moment can make life even more difficult if you’re living with the fear of vomiting.
The heat can make your symptoms feel worse.
High temperatures g increase feelings of nausea and dizziness, anxiety about food increases as it really does go off faster in the heat
On top of that, the sensations heat creates in your body such as a racing heart, sweating, light-headedness are exactly what you experience when emetophobia or fear of vomiting take hold.
So if this summer has felt harder than usual, you're not imagining it, and you're not alone.
A few things that can help right now:
🌿 Keep hydrated little and often, rather than large amounts at once
🌿 Stick to foods you trust, and don't be afraid to trust your instincts on food safety
🌿 Practise slow, steady breathing when you notice heat-related sensations — it tells your body there's no real danger
🌿 Remind yourself: feeling warm or a bit off isn't the same as being sick
Emetophobia doesn't have to ruin your summer or run your life for you. I've written a full blog on what keeps this fear going and how CBT and hypnotherapy used together can help you build lasting confidence and to take those first steps to overcoming the grip emetophobia has over you.
Emetophobia - the fear of vomiting doesn’t have to rule your life. Find out how you can manage emetophobia with hypnotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy.
