This week at Saplings, our young adventurers talked about fireworks, their noises, and the colours we can see. They made some fireworks pictures by rolling conkers and dipping sweet chestnuts in paint. 🎨

They laid a fire and practised using the fire strikers. Mystic flames were put into the fire, and the children watched as the flame changed into different colours. 🔥

Sweet chestnuts were cooked on the fire, and our Somerhill Saplings (and staff) enjoyed tasting them. 🌰

This morning, our Somerhill community came together for a service of remembrance.

Parents joined staff and pupils in Years 2-8 in the Memorial Garden to pay their respects to those who gave their lives for King or Queen and Country. Members of our school council read out names of Yardley Court pupils who lost their lives, and the Last Post was played by Milo in Year 8 before a minute's silence was observed.

We are proud to share that Edward Warner, a Yardley Court alumnus from 1988-1993, has been awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours. As Disability and Access Ambassador at the Cabinet Office Disability Unit, he was recognised for services to disabled people.

Ed, founder of Motionspot Limited, leads in designing accessible spaces and transforming environments for inclusivity. His consultancy's impactful work extends to advising the government on disability-related issues. Explore their inspiring projects at https://motionspot.co.uk/.

Fantastic to have five former Yardley Court pupils playing for the Tonbridge School 1st XV this year: Henry H, Tom C, Harry L, Ollie M, and Will T (L-R).

Tonbridge had a successful season on a tough circuit, including notable wins against strong sides from Wellington College, St Paul’s, Radley and local rivals Judd.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated Somerhill's Magnificent Milestones Afternoon Tea on Saturday. Over 275 people caught up with old school friends and work colleagues, viewed the memorabilia on display from 1899 to the present, walked the buildings and grounds of Somerhill and enjoyed an excellent afternoon tea in the Dining Hall.
