Today we had a visit form Zoolab. Most of the children thoroughly enjoyed it, some were a little sceptical. The animals were loosely based on the Gruffalo story. They met a frog, snail, centipede, snack, cockroach and a gerbil.

The staff attended training on how to use a Life vac. After listening to a talk by the founder of The Oliver Steeper Foundation we were shown how to use the life vac and then all had a try. The life Vac is an emergency life saving device to be used as a last resort in a choking incident when all other first aid has not worked. Oaklands now have a life Vac on each floor of the nursery which was kindly donated by The Oliver Steeper Foundation

The preschool took part in an activity to help develop their counting skills. Each child had a picture of a spider with different amounts of legs. The child was then encouraged to count how many legs their spider has. Once they counted the legs they used the large tweezers to add pom poms to each leg, counting whilst they did this.

In Today's activity, the preschool explored two different tuff trays, each representing Autumn and Winter respectfully. In the autumn tray, the children explored a wide variety of seeds, leaves and pinecones, they loved exploring how the different materials felt and using their imagination to create a nice forest area with the help of their friends! In the Winter tray, there was large a block of ice filled with pinecones, the children had to work together to break the ice and dig out the pinecones.
