When deciding on the correct finish for the hem or frill edges, many things should be considered and clearly outline in your tech packs.

Weight and thickness of threads, number of stitches per inch or centimetre play essential role in the way your garment going to look.

Sometimes is a matter of switching colour and density of stitches that will elevate your garment to the next level without adding extra materials or make costs.

Unfortunately, not all the designers have enough technical skills to come up with the solutions themselves. Garment technologists for many is unfordable luxury. As a result, the only option they have is to rely on the manufacturer to come up with suggestions how to cost effectively better the garment.
💥At times, it might serve you well to have a team work approach but not in this case. This is when you have to take the full ownership of the garment and have control in matters of garment construction, sewing technology and looks.

Nowadays, fashion brands are pushed by conscious consumer demands to lean toward sustainability. Buzzwords such as "brand promise," "ethical sourcing," "sustainable goals" are used to create an appealing image but sadly 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘣𝘪𝘨𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦. 😥

Any questions you might have are important. Manufactures don't expect you to know everything. Yet, it's expected that you will make your initial research via manufacturer's website, social media channels etc.

Do not waste your precious time you have with the factory - get ready and ask only specific to your case questions.

Getting your costs right is crucial to the success of your business. Repetitive mistakes in your garment pricing (costing) sometimes can result in business failure. 💸🪄

You must estimate the cost very accurately to ensure that your retail prices deliver a healthy profit margin.

There are obvious costs such as
cost of materials, labour and packaging.
🙌 Most of the designers get this part right.
Yet, there are hidden elements impacting garment costings. Many startups or even well established brands, fail to notice and cost these elements. 🤑
So, next time when you are pricing your garment, double check if you factored in the following expense:
✅ Costs of the trips you make to the factory
✅ Custom duty you will need to pay either on raw materials or ready-made goods delivery
✅ Extra freight costs
✅ Spare buttons
✅ Insurance of goods in transit
✅ Grading and markers

Why do I need to produce a pre-production sample?
We are opening this season with the most debated issue among start-up fashion brands.

I get it; samples are expensive!🤑

However, the costs of not producing one could be higher if things go wrong during bulk production.

We produce pre-production samples to check:
🌟 Quality – it's the best way to see if your manufacturer is capable of producing garments adhering to your standards.
🌟 Price – you might think that manufacturers will know the cost of producing your items based on their previous experience. In reality, a sample is always required to get the most accurate quotation.
🌟 Components – how certain can you be that your bulk fabrics have the same shrinkage or stretch ratio? Are you sure that your manufacturer is 100% clear about care label allocation and placement?
🙈I've seen some hilarious mistakes in the past. For example, one of our studio clients had green zips ordered for a dark red dress.
Apparently, there was a typo in the production order. I'm glad we spotted it at the sampling stage and ordered the correct colour zips on time.
A quick recap: there are various, mostly unexpected problems that can happen during production. We make pre-production samples to pre-empt these issues and resolve them before bulk production begins.
