Which app do I click on to set zoom up on the laptop? We have it on the phone but too small really for regular use. I’m not very good with computers.
For anyone struggling next week, Jules at two moors gallery in the village is kindly offering free lunches for kids off school
Is Zoom on today for class 1? I thought it said so in an earlier email but as it’s bank holiday I thought I better check??
Today is the day, first pop up cafe at the Sports Club, raising money to replace the club floor. Perfect way to kill a bit of time between school pick up & football club pick up. Lots on offer including gluten/wheat free cake. Please come along to support - feedback welcome.
Remember the pop up cafe is this Friday at the Sports Club. Perfect if you’re killing time between school pick up & football club pick up. Come in and grab yourself a warm cappuccino & some delicious home made cake (not made by me don’t worry) or a milkshake for the little ones
Jack Vigurs book bag.
Has anyone picked this up by mistake? checked school last night and not there. 🙈
Should I keep my child off school? Shared from Active With Parents, Tiverton
Something new for you to try. At a loose end after the school run, why not treat yourselves.....
Today at 4pm. All welcome and tea provided. Another opportunity for the children to dress up and be part of the nativity. 🌟
If anyone comes across an elf hat with ears & a bell & a huge rip at the back please can you let me know, it’s Masons. I’ve stitched the rip (deliberate as his heads too big) & there will be some black ink either side of the rip which is supposed to resemble his initials!

Operating as usual

Just a reminder that tomorrow is Class 3’s trip to the river. The weather is looking like it will clear up but children will definitely need solid walking shoes or wellies and a waterproof coat.

We also have our KS2 football match after school tomorrow for those children selected. Kit is provided but children will definitely need shin pads and football boots. 5.30pm collection time back at school but parents/carers are welcome to spectate at Bishops Nympton school where you can take your child straight after the match. We’ve been advised that parking is tricky around the school so please park responsibly if spectating.

On Monday, it was World Mental Health Day. We started the day appreciating everyone's odd socks and hearing from the KS2 children who helped us understand what mental health is, why it's so important and which strategies we can use to help balance it. Class 4 informed us that one of the '10 a day' strategies to help balance mental health is 'be active in body and mind'.

Therefore, this week we have relaunched the Daily Mile. Each breaktime, the children are encouraged to walk, run, skip or creatively move around 5 laps of school to help recharge their batteries and refresh their minds. They are encouraged to do so whilst catching up with their friends and keeping track of their progress.

To celebrate a new school link we have with a school in Berlin, we are attempting to run the 30-mile length of the Berlin Wall. Along the way we can track our progress on the Conqueror Challenge app, we will be sent postcards at various milestones along the way and we will receive a very fancy medal upon completing the challenge.

Alongside this challenge, we also spent some time discussing mental health and wellbeing in our classes. In KS2, we went on a wellbeing walk in the afternoon. Along the walk of the school premises, we dropped children off to have some reflection time in peaceful spots. The children were encouraged to reflect on their emotions, the things they enjoy and the things they can do to manage their mental health. Some children decided to draw pictures, write poems or tell stories whereas some children opted to just sit peacefully and have some thinking time.

Apple Day at Witheridge CofE Academy

On Monday some of our pupils were treated to an Apple Day to celebrate the crops of apples that we have grown on our trees within the school grounds.

They learnt about the history of apples and how it was turned into juice and then even cider. About 100 years ago almost all farms in Devon had an apple crush and produced their own cider that they then paid their farm staff each day with. About 2-3 litres a day was about the going rate! Also, that back in the 18th century it was deemed safer to drink cider than the water…..

Last week pupils had picked a mixture of green and red apples off our trees. So, on Monday we used a masher to crush and pummel all the apples up before using an apple press to extract the juice. We were successful in getting almost fourteen litres of fresh apple juice that was served to all our students in the dining hall at lunchtime.

In addition, Bobbie in the kitchen had used a batch of our red apples to make a yummy apple crumble served with custard for lunch.

Thank you to all the parents, carers and friends who supported our Book Fair in the summer - we couldn't do this without you!

At Witheridge Academy, Rocksteady lessons are taking place again this year. Children from Year 1 - Year 6 are able to join Rocksteady sessions to learn to play in a Rock Band! Children can learn the keyboard, drums or guitars or they can take the role of lead vocalist! Every term, the children in each band perform in a special concert which Parents and Carers are invited to watch. All children in Years 1 - 6 will bring home a leaflet today with further information on how to sign up to this amazing opportunity.

Welcome back, Witheridge CofE Academy!

We hope everyone had a lovely Summer Holidays 😊

We've missed you all and delighted to see you all back in school.

Year 6 Parents - A message from Devon School Admissions 😊

It's time for us to say goodbye for the summer holidays!

It is hard to believe that we have reached the end of another school year! It has been another fantastic year of learning at Witheridge Academy, and I am so proud of every single child in this school for their hard work, perseverance and consistently making good choices.

Friday, we said 'Goodbye' to our Year 6s: Ava, George, Percy, Scarlett, Millie, Blake, Zac, Holly, Tiamii, Oscar, Nicholas, Amelia, Henley, Tristan, Robert, Henry, Owen and Penny.

We know that you will all go on to achieve amazing things, and we look forward to hearing about your future successes as you move through the next stage of your education. You have made us all incredibly proud.

I would like to say a big thank you to all our Parents and Carers for your continued support this year. It has been another challenging year, with Covid still looming over us, particularly in the Spring Term, and then we were hit with Chickenpox! However, we have also enjoyed discovering ways of life that perhaps have been forgotten - inviting Parents and Carers back in to school has been a great experience for us. We have also enjoyed going on school trips again and exploring places. The very best thing has been that we can hold whole school Collective Worships and events.

I am so excited for the next school year. Lots of exciting trips, residentials and learning to come.

I hope you have a relaxing summer break; we will see you in September!

The Witheridge children have been loving the cricket so far today.

Especially meeting the players and getting signatures. So far, we've met Yorkshire and former England player Adam Lyth and Somerset's Tom Banton, Tom Lammonby and Sonny Baker!

We're praying the rain holds off so we can enjoy a few more hours of cricket before the end of play!

🏏KS2 County Cricket Championship🏏

Tomorrow, Wednesday 20th July, children need to be in school for 8.30am as the coach will be departing Witheridge CofE Academy at 9am. We will depart from the cricket ground at 6pm, with an ETA of 7pm in Witheridge.

As you can see, we are predicted a cooler day tomorrow. However, as clearly seen today, the weather can be unpredictable and there is little shade/shelter from the elements at the County Ground.

Please still send your child to school in full school uniform with all of the things listed in the original letter. Alongside these items, if possible, we would advise you to also pack a thin waterproof coat and a small umbrella. The umbrella will not only protect the children from any potential showers but also it can double up as a sun shade if the weather is any hotter than predicted.

Children will need to bring:
A sun hat
Sun cream
A morning snack
A afternoon snack
A packed lunch
2 bottles of water

A thin rain coat
Small umbrella

Many thanks 🏏

The Pre-Loved Uniform Shop will be under the Playground shelter from 3pm this Thursday!

Class 4

Tomorrow afternoon, children in Class 4 will have the opportunity for a water fight in school.

Please could all children come to school with a complete change of clothes (including shoes and underwear!) and a towel.

Children are welcome to bring in water pistols and buckets for what we hope will be a great, fun celebration for the end of term.

As we approach the end of another school year, we take a moment to think about our 18 Year 6 children as they get ready to fly the Witheridge CofE Academy nest and head off to their new secondary schools.

We will miss them all!

You are ready Year 6.
It is nearly time.
Time for one last wear of our uniform.
Time for one last journey to school.
Time for one last registration.
Time for one last assembly.
Time for one last sit on the benches.
Time for one last wander in the corridors.
Time for one last day, everyone together.
Time for one last goodbye to your teacher.
Time to move on.
Time for the next step.
Time for new adventures.
Time to look forward and not back.
It is nearly time.
You are ready....
It is time.

Super Stan - Class 4

The Class 4 show is due to take place on Monday afternoon and Monday evening. As you may be aware, the weather is due to become very warm over the weekend and into next week.

At the moment, we are still intending on going ahead with our performances, however, if this changes and we have to move the date to later in the week, we will let you know ASAP.

The guidance we have been given is that:
windows and doors will be open and blinds drawn
Parents and Carers are to bring resealable water bottles
Should we feel that it is not safe to go ahead with the performances, we will inform you ASAP.

Allocated tickets has been emailed to all parents - Due to restrictions in the hall, we have no extra available tickets for the evening performance.

I am so excited for you to see 'SuperStan'!

Mrs Nott and Class 4 have worked so hard, and it is wonderful!

Last night we did our night walk and campfire activities. As soon as it was dark, we walked carefully into the woods and admired the night sky. Then our torches were taken and we had to follow a glow stick trail through the woods!

When we reached the end of the trail, we tracked the movement of bats using our torches and a bat detector.

We ended the night with a midnight song around the fire and finally got off to sleep just before 1am!

Photos from Witheridge CofE Academy's post 14/07/2022

This afternoon, we did several woodland activities such as zipwire, ultimate tag and butterfly catching. After all that hard work, we walked down to the river for a splash around. The children enjoyed dunking themselves under, cooling off and searching for river creatures.

The children then feasted on a locally sourced vegetable pasta, fruit platter and toasted marshmallows. We are currently sitting around the campfire after assisting staff with returning the sheep and feeding the animals.

Keep your eyes peeled in the morning for updates on our night walk and other evening activities!

Class 3 have arrived and settled in at the Wildside adventure! We've been playing games in the woods, had lunch with some pesky visitors and settled into our tents. We are looking forward to a trip to the river this afternoon to cool off!

Tomorrow, Monday 11th July, we will be hosting a KS2 football tournament at school against the other TEAM schools - Emails have been sent to the selected players parents.

If your child would like to participate in this event, they will need:

FSU Sports Day

Today was the FSU Sports Day and what a fantastic day it has been! The children spent the morning competing against each other in 6 different activities. Our youngest children had to use a wide range of skills to complete the activities such as throwing, balancing, building and even putting! When the activities were finished we ended the morning with some fun races in front of our families too.

Everyone at School was so proud of the attitudes our young athletes showed and we were very grateful that so many parents came to share the occasion with us too. I would also like to thank our brilliant helpers from Year 6 for beautifully demonstrating, organising and point totaling throughout the morning.

Our Year 6 and Reception children have some time to relax now before they lace up their trainers again for our Sports Day on Wednesday!

Mr Manning

If you are free tomorrow at 9am, Please visit our Coffee Morning.
You will be able to grab a coffee or tea, a piece of Bobbie's yummy cake, a friendly chat and leave wanting to come back.

Monday 4th July
We are looking forward to our FSU Sports Day tomorrow morning at 9.30. Children in Reception should come to school dressed in their PE kit and our Nursery children should wear appropriate clothing including trainers.

To ensure we are operating within the correct staff/child ratios, additional children (those not usually with us on a Monday morning) must be under the direct care and supervision of their accompanying adults. We ask you to meet us on The Sports Field at 9.30.

FSU Sports Day Helpers: Please could your child come to school wearing their PE kit tomorrow. As the normal lesson for the afternoon is also PE, children will not need to bring their school uniform in to school - they can wear PE kits all day.
