Mini Monkeys Childminding Welcome to Mini Monkeys Childminding, which has been a childcare setting for the past 12 years near I am a level 3 qualified, Ofsted Registered childminder.

Welcome to Mini Monkeys Childminding, which has been a childcare setting for the past 12 years near the Blundells school area of Tiverton, run by myself Michelle Parsons. I work with my assistant Catherine who is also paediatric and safe guarding trained. I have over 18 years childcare experience. I am fully insured with childcare.co.uk. We offer home from home childcare for children aged 6 weeks to high school, in a safe, nurturing family environment. We currently offer school drop offs and pick ups from Castle Primary school. ☀️ The end of another wonderful summer at Mini Monkeys! 🐒

Although I took a couple of weeks of annual leave to enjoy some family time, our Mini Monkeys still managed to pack the summer with adventures, exploration, learning and lots of fun! ❤️
From exploring Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery and discovering the animals 🐘, to getting stuck into crazy golf ⛳, there have been plenty of opportunities to develop confidence, coordination, communication and those all-important social skills.
🫐 One of our favourite adventures was blackberry picking! The children loved searching for the ripest berries, learning about where our food comes from and enjoying the great outdoors. We then used our berries to make some delicious treats together — lots of opportunities for counting, measuring, following instructions and developing independence… with the added bonus of something yummy to enjoy! 😋

🦈 We had a fantastic day at Plymouth Aquarium, enjoying lunch beneath the underwater tunnel while watching the sharks and turtle, followed by a visit to the lighthouse and, of course, ice cream! 🍦
We’ve also enjoyed soft play and exploring our local museum, where the children particularly love climbing aboard the ‘real’ train! 🚂

Here’s to a summer full of memories, friendships, laughter and learning. 🥰🐒☀️

🚓 A Special Visit from the Police! 🚓❤️

A huge thank you to Devon and Cornwall Police for kindly sending one of your officers to visit us at our setting!

The children were thoroughly excited when the police car arrived outside! There were lots of smiles, questions and curious little faces as we explored the car and learned more about the important job police officers do. 👮‍♀️👮‍♂️

The children had the opportunity to take turns sitting inside the police car and were especially excited to practise putting on their seat belts. They explored different police hats and had a closer look at some of the equipment used by officers. We loved seeing the children’s curiosity, confidence and enthusiasm as they explored something new.

And of course, the highlight was hearing those VERY loud sirens! 🚨😂 As we said a huge thank you and waved goodbye, the officer switched them on — definitely a moment the children won’t forget!

A fantastic opportunity for real-life learning, exploration and discovery. 🌟

🌿 July Highlights – From Very Hungry Caterpillars to Summer Adventures! 🐛🦋

July’s main focus was all about The Very Hungry Caterpillar — and what a wonderful learning experience it was! 🐛❤️ The children were fascinated to watch our tiny caterpillars grow, change and eventually form their cocoons before emerging as beautiful butterflies. 🦋
The most magical moment was releasing our butterflies into the garden. 🦋✨

Of course, we still found plenty of time for other summer adventures! 🍓🌞 We went strawberry picking, challenged ourselves to find our way through a maze, enjoyed a well-deserved ice cream while walking along the canal 🍦, and took part in the Room on the Broom trail at Haldon Forest. 🌳🧙‍♀️
We also enjoyed some wonderful baking and real-life learning, making delicious scones as thank-you gifts for the lovely helpers at our weekly playgroup. 👩‍🍳❤️

Another month full of curiosity, exploration, learning through play and wonderful memories! 🌈✨

🌞 June Highlights! 🌞

What a beautiful, busy month we had, we certainly made the most of the wonderful summer weather and spent lots of time outdoors. ☀️🌿

From beach days and Sports Day to making our own lemonade and ice cream, and of course plenty of splashing and water play in the pool, there have been so many opportunities for learning through play, exploration and discovery. 🍋🍦💦

We’ve encouraged the children to make choices, solve problems, try new experiences and learn from the world around them — all while having lots of fun! 💛

A month full of sunshine, laughter, messy play, wonderful memories and lots of “Can we do that again?” moments! 🌈✨

🐝 World Bee Day 🐝

To celebrate World Bee Day on Tuesday 20th May, we spent the week enjoying a range of bee-themed activities! The children loved learning about the different roles bees have within a hive and used their imaginations to become busy beekeepers.

We also went on a flower hunt around our outdoor area to spot bees hard at work. The children enjoyed watching them collect pollen and nectar, learning firsthand how important bees are to our environment.

It has been wonderful to see their curiosity grow as they discovered more about these amazing little pollinators. The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning all about bees! 🌼🍯🐝

What a lovely day we had at Landacre Bridge! 🌿💦

Armed with nets and buckets, the children excitedly explored the river, making discoveries and connecting with nature. After enjoying a picnic lunch, everyone eagerly volunteered to test how cold the water was! Shoes and socks off, they splashed in the river, filling the air with laughter and cries of “It’s freezing!”❤️

🌍🎉 Happy Birthday Sir David Attenborough! 🎉🌍

We enjoyed several days of celebrations inspired by the incredible Sir David Attenborough and his passion for the natural world.

Through group discussions, the children learned about Sir David’s love of animals and the environment. As we talked about birthdays, the children shared their own experiences, telling us that birthdays are for “cake”, “party dresses”, “singing Happy Birthday”, and “presents”. These conversations supported their communication and language skills as they confidently expressed their ideas and listened to others.

Using the children’s interests and ideas, we planned a special birthday celebration. The children brought in their favourite animal teddies, invited friends to join us, and worked together to create a memorable party. From baking a birthday cake to singing and celebrating together, the children developed important social skills, cooperation, and a sense of community.

To extend our learning about animals and the natural world, we enjoyed a visit to , where the children explored different habitats, observed wildlife, and asked thoughtful questions about the animals they saw. This supported their understanding of the world and encouraged curiosity about nature, just as Sir David has inspired generations to do.

A wonderful few days of learning, exploration, and celebrations for a truly remarkable man. 🌿🦊🐻

Although 1st May already feels a long time ago, we had a wonderful time celebrating May Day! 🌸

The children enjoyed independently choosing their coloured ribbons before taking part in traditional Maypole dancing and creating beautiful spring nature bracelets. These experiences supported several areas of the EYFS, through movement and coordination, creative exploration, whist engaging with seasonal traditions and the natural environment.

It was a lovely afternoon filled with creativity, teamwork, and plenty of smiles! 🌈🌸🌿🎀

Our outings this month provided lots of exciting opportunities for exploration, learning and shared experiences. We enjoyed an exciting bus journey into the city to visit the museum, helping to extend the children’s understanding of the world around them through real-life experiences and new environments. The highlight of the visit was definitely seeing the large animals, which sparked lots of curiosity, conversation and questions from the children. 🦒✨

Closer to home, we made the most of our local parks, where the children enjoyed picnic lunches, outdoor play and lots of opportunities to build friendships, confidence and physical skills while having fun together. 🧺🌳

Following on from our Earth Day learning, we also took our litter pickers to the beach for a beach clean. The children were excited to help care for the environment and were delighted to discover the beach was already extremely clean! This gave us even more time to enjoy building sand sculptures, visiting the lifeboat and, of course, ending our beach trip with a well-deserved ice cream treat. 🍦🏖️

The children regularly show great curiosity about the world around them, so we embraced this interest by planting our own seeds and learning how to care for them each day. 🌱 The children enjoyed exploring what plants need to grow, developing patience, responsibility and a deeper understanding of the natural world through hands-on experiences.

As our outdoor kitchen is always a favourite area in the garden, we also created our own herb garden to inspire imaginative play, sensory exploration and conversations around cooking, nature and healthy foods. 🌿🍃

We also spent time learning about Earth Day and discussing simple ways we can help care for our world, encouraging kindness towards the environment and helping the children to understand the importance of looking after our planet. 🌍💚
