For those heading to a competition soon, consider how you prepare. Things like fitness, food, event timings, kit, 121s and how you get the most out of every minute of every session (which includes resting 😊 and rehydration 🌊 of course).
Think about "what does success look like?" - because it's not all about medals. For you, for the challenge ahead, the right goals might be very different each time. Progress and having fun might be top of your list.
Tell your friends, get encouragement, ask experienced competitors for tips. How can we support each other?

What is an Open tournament?
An 'open' competition is open to all, nationwide, so competitors earn ranking points with British Fencing (yes, there's a league table!) and you're bound to meet players you've never fenced before.

Springiness. Yes, that's what we want at the club. Lots of energy. Great to see new people, fencers coming back to training, players returning from the BYCs and others heading to their next tournament. 😊

Got old tech clutter? 💻📱📺
We are excited to be launching five Fixy donation points in libraries! You can donate electricals you no longer use; the devices are then refurbished, and the refurbished items are donated to those experiencing digital poverty. 💚
Our partnership with Fixy, Resource Futures, and Donate IT aims to tackle electronic waste in Devon and address the digital divide. Every year, over 100,00 tonnes of electricals are thrown away. We want to give people the opportunity to have a clear out of their old tech while helping the environment and others!
The five new donation points launch on:
🟢 Cullompton Library is up and running
🟢 Totnes Library - April 18th at ShareFest
🟢 Exeter Library - April 22nd, 11 am - 1 pm
🟢 Tiverton Library - May 9th, 11 am - 1 pm
🟢 Barnstaple Library - July 18th, 11 am - 1 pm

Competition Time 🏆 What to bring?
With some of our fencers soon to be entering their first competitions, I have come up with this list to advise on what you should be sure to bring. Please drop anything you think we’ve missed in the comments!
- Fencing whites (breeches, jacket, 800N plastron, glove, chest protector if needed)
- Lame (if foil or sabre)
- Fencing shoes (or whatever shoes you usually fence in)
- Long socks (that stay up)
- Mask
- Two working wires (+ two mask wires for foil or sabre)
- Two legal weapons (if you don’t know what this means, ask your coach)
- Emergency armoury kit (technically non essential as somebody at the competition will have this stuff, but very useful for quick repairs)
- Snacks!
- Water bottle
- Hairbands (to tie back long hair)
- You might also want to consider a towel, a change of clothes, headphones, phone charger, etc
