Blundell's School

Blundell's School Peter Blundell was one of the wealthiest merchants of Elizabethan, England and died in 1601.

Blundell’s is a dynamic independent school set in the Devon countryside, inspiring pupils to achieve their potential through academic excellence, co-curricular opportunity and strong pastoral care. In his will he left money and lands to help found a school in his home town in his hope to help maintain “sound learning and true religion.” Since its creation in 1604 Blundell’s continues to be a strong school both in terms of academics and sporting achievements and takes great honour in producing Old Boys and Girls that continue through life upholding Blundell’s values.

Our Year 8’s field day began with a wonderful Harry Potter-themed breakfast prepared by our Catering Team, with Butterbeer pancakes, Polyjuice Potion and Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans, all served in a fantastically decorated Dining Hall.

After collecting their magical packed lunches – complete with chocolate frogs – they set off for the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London.

The teachers dressed up, everyone embraced the spirit of the day, and the pupils were excellent throughout. Staff and pupils alike had a huge amount of fun exploring the magic behind the Harry Potter films before returning to Blundell’s at a very sensible hour!

A brilliant Field Day and one Year 8 certainly won’t forget in a hurry. ⚡🪄

Huge congratulations to Mrs Wheatley, who recently represented Great Britain at the Age Group World Triathlon Finals in Pontevedra, Spain.
Competing in the Standard Distance event, Kate completed a 1.5km open-water swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run, finishing an impressive 18th out of 41 women from around the world in her age group and as the fourth British finisher.

A fantastic achievement and a proud moment to represent Great Britain on the international stage.

Last week, a group of our pupils had the incredible opportunity to visit HMS Prince of Wales, one of the Royal Navy’s aircraft carriers.

The visit gave them a fascinating insight into life on board, from exploring the crew’s living quarters and the bridge to learning more about the complex operation involved in keeping such an extraordinary ship running.

A real highlight was seeing an F-35B Lightning jet up close in the hangar, giving pupils a sense of both the scale of the carrier and the important role it plays within the Royal Navy.

A huge thank you to the Royal Navy for such an engaging and memorable visit, and to Miss Johnson and Mr Mycock for accompanying the pupils.

Last Wednesday our Design & Technology scholars took part in an inspiring employer encounter at the test track, gaining firsthand insight into the diverse career pathways within engineering. Hearing directly from industry experts, the pupils explored the entire production lifecycle - from breaking down a customer brief and collaborating across departments to component testing and final manufacturing. Our scholars fully immersed themselves in the experience, asking insightful questions throughout the day. The unforgettable highlight was an exhilarating ride in Supacat's high-mobility military vehicles!

This October half term, the P4P Athletic Development Camp comes to Blundell’s.

Athletes aged 12–18 will experience a combination of strength and conditioning, speed and sprint coaching, agility, performance testing, recovery sessions and sport science, alongside daily multi-sport activities. All sports and all abilities welcome.
