🌟 Young Leaders in the making! 🌟

This year, our KS2 children will be taking part in the Archbishop’s Young Leaders Award (AYLA) through the Diocese of Salisbury — an exciting programme that helps children develop leadership, teamwork, confidence and a sense of service to others.

This afternoon, we explored what makes a good leader before heading into our houses for some leadership challenges! The children had to line up in different orders without speaking, master a game of Chinese whispers and take on a riotous game of The Floor is Lava 🌋, working together to build a bridge and get their whole team across. When that proved too easy, we added the challenge of doing it in silence! 🤫

We finished by discussing what makes a good leader. The children said they should be kind, good listeners, understanding of their peers and not shout — qualities that were certainly on show this afternoon!

A fantastic start to our AYLA journey! 💙

Mrs Stobbart was on BBC Radio Wiltshire this morning, chatting all things St Thomas a Becket, our wonderful pupils and how we’re getting everyone ready for the exciting year ahead!

It was lovely to have the chance to share a little bit about our school and all the brilliant things happening here. ❤️

✨ What a fantastic first day! ✨

What a brilliant start to the new school year! It has been wonderful to welcome back our pupils and meet so many new friends joining our school community. 💛

We’ve loved getting back into our routines, settling into our new year groups and, most importantly, getting stuck into lots of exciting learning!

The school is looking absolutely lovely and there is such a positive buzz around the place. We’re already looking forward to everything this new year will bring and all the wonderful opportunities ahead. 📚🌿✨

🌟 Welcome Back, Everyone! 🌟

We hope you’ve all had a wonderful summer — full of rest, sunshine, adventures, and those slow moments that make the holidays feel so special. As we prepare to reopen for the new term, we are so excited to see all of our children again, both those returning to us and those joining our school community for the very first time. 💛

📅 Key Dates for the Start of Term

• Wednesday 2nd September — School reopens for all children.
• Tuesday 1st September (INSET Day) — Although this is a staff training day, we warmly invite any children who would like to pop in for a quick visit to come along between 2.30–3pm with their parents. It’s a gentle way to ease any last‑minute nerves and help everyone feel settled.

👶 New Reception Children – Starting Pattern
To support a smooth transition, our Reception children will begin with a staggered start:

• Wednesday 2nd September — Pick up at 12.15pm
• Thursday 3rd September — Pick up at 12.15pm
• Friday 4th September — Pick up at 1.15pm (staying for lunch)
• Monday 7th September — Pick up at 1.15pm (staying for lunch)
• Tuesday 8th September — Full‑time from this date

As always, we are flexible. If your child needs a little longer to settle, or if you’d prefer them to start full‑time straight away, please just get in touch via email — we’re here to support every family’s needs.

🌿 PE & Forest School

• Thursdays — PE (children should come to school in their PE kit)
• Fridays — Forest School (children should wear their Forest School kit)

The start of a new school year is always such a special moment — full of fresh beginnings, new friendships, and exciting learning ahead. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back through the gates next week for another amazing year together. 💛

🌟 A Final Message for the School Year 🌟

As we wrap up another wonderful year, all of us at school want to say a huge, heartfelt thank you for the beautiful cards, thoughtful gifts and kind words you’ve shared with us. Your generosity and support mean more than you know.

A very special thank you must go to everyone involved in organising the children’s wedding video for me — tears were absolutely shed. It was one of the most touching surprises I’ve ever received, and I’ll treasure it forever.

This year has been truly amazing. That’s down to your support, our incredible community, and of course each and every one of our children. They continue to inspire us daily with their kindness, curiosity and brilliance. We are so proud of them.

📌 INSET Day – Tuesday 1st September
School will be open between 2.30pm and 3pm for anyone who would like to pop in, meet their teachers, see their new classroom, and ease any last‑minute nerves.
This is a gentle, optional transition opportunity — everyone is welcome.

📌 First Day Back – Wednesday 2nd September
We are already excited to see all the children return, refreshed and ready for another brilliant year ahead.

What a way to end the school year! 🐻📻

Today we were treated to a very special and rather mysterious visit from Mr Frank Jones from Tilshead village, accompanied by Mr Jewers from BBC Radio Wiltshire.

For our Nursery, Reception and KS1 children, Mr Jones (looking the part in full regalia!) brought history to life as he shared the fascinating true story of the real Winnie the Pooh. The children discovered how the famous bear has surprising links to Tilshead, and they were completely captivated from beginning to end.

Meanwhile, our KS2 pupils became history detectives. They began by respectfully visiting the churchyard to investigate the graves of three young Canadian soldiers who trained at Westdown Camp during the First World War. Their evidence gathering then led them into our Forest School, where Mr Jones revealed the remarkable story behind their discoveries. It was a truly immersive experience that sparked curiosity, thoughtful questions and a real connection to our local history.

Some of our pupils were even interviewed by BBC Radio Wiltshire, and we're hoping to hear the feature on the radio tomorrow! Please note that, due to time constraints, not every interview is likely to be included in the final broadcast—but we know all of the children represented the school brilliantly.

This was a wonderful example of bringing our history curriculum to life and perfectly reflected our curriculum driver of Relevant—helping children make meaningful connections between their learning and the world around them.

A huge thank you goes to Frank Jones for giving so generously of his time, for all the hard work that went into planning today's experience, and for sharing his incredible knowledge and enthusiasm with our children. It was a memorable end to the year and an experience they will be talking about for a long time to come!

🦉 What a fantastic day at the Hawk Conservancy! 🦅

Our Nursery to Year 4 children are all safely on the coach heading back after an unforgettable day meeting some incredible birds of prey. We saw owls, vultures, secretary birds, falcons, storks and many more amazing species, and everyone enjoyed two spectacular flying displays.

Nursery and Reception took part in a brilliant owl workshop, where they learned all about owl feathers before meeting some of these beautiful birds up close in the enclosure! Meanwhile, our older children became wildlife detectives, dissecting owl pellets to discover what their owls had been eating.

A huge thank you to the wonderful team at the Hawk Conservancy for such an engaging and memorable experience. What an amazing day, and a wonderful way to almost round off another fantastic school year! 💚
