Hi lovely followers. Hoping you’re well?
As you are aware, we have now sadly closed the business. This week has felt very strange not heading into the woods… but it has been drawn to my attention that our final farewell post on Instagram from our last day, for some reason didn’t simultaneously post on Facebook (like all our posts normally do). Hugely sorry about this. 😞 I have now copied it below, as this was an important post to us … as we wanted to say a fond farewell and a massive thank you to our Facebook followers too!

From 23/5/25: This is a difficult post to write - it’ll be the last for a while… well, I’ll probably post some extra piccies and vids later, but for now…what a total joy it has all been! THANK YOU so very very much dear Forest School families for your kindness during these past few sessions. Thank you for the gifts, the care taken over the homemade cards🥰, the flowers💐, the AMAZING comments on social media and in person - and thanks for the warm hugs🤗! We appreciate it all and felt all the love. We are so touched that we seem to have made a difference to your week and that new friendships and communities have been created and we hope continued into the future. Who knew a gathering twice a week under the trees would result in so much joy and happiness! We must just quickly say we will treasure our last snail 🐌 and slug race today - once again there was a clear winner! 🥇 Plus, I don’t think anyone will ever look at a choc chip brioche in quite the same way again - now renamed slug brioche! If you know, you know! 😉 Hard to walk out of our ‘office’ for the last time today - now the big clear up to do. We have so so many wonderful, crazy, happy and treasured moments to treasure! That’s down to YOU, wonderful families, who have been inspirational to us over the years and we wish you all the very best for the future! With so much love ❤️ to you all, Becca and Lindsey 🌳🌳 - Linds, I think we did ‘a thing’! Proud of us 😍 😢 ❤️

Forgot to post these sun-drenched photos from Friday last week! Apologies! We had a big mini-beast adventure! We also had loads of interest in using the pruning saw and sawhorse!

A bittersweet day as this was our last ever Monday Stay and Play session today 😢 but we really felt it was full of joy! 🤩 There are many things we have enjoyed doing at Forest 🌳 School over the past 3.5 years - and many beautiful and wonderful sights to behold and learn about 🌷🦋 🍃 🐞 …But, we have always also loved showing the children some of the less popular creatures, which often get an unfair reputation - like the common snail and various slugs. We like to show how curious and incredible these small creatures are with a slug and snail ‘race’ and we are always so surprised to see how much fascination this provokes. We must reassure you that no snail or slug is harmed in the process and we are sure to re-home them afterwards. For once, there was an actual clear winner today - a super speedy (in snail terms) snail 🐌 crossed the finish line in record time, whilst the other participants never made it past the starting point! 😂It was a wonderful sight to behold all of our Forest school families so taken with these humble, slimy critters! Lots of lovely clay and wood cookie snails being made and taken home today and snail and slug ‘trails’ created on a roll of paper with mud, water and paintbrushes. A string ‘slug trail’ was also set up amongst the trees for the children to follow, which was also popular. We toasted choc chip brioche on the fire 🔥 too! Thank you so much Monday families for making it so special today and for coming to all the sessions you have attended! We are so grateful that we have been able to meet and get to know you all - we cannot believe that some of you have been coming for 3.5 years! All of your children are amazing and so kind - you should be so proud of the nature-loving people they are showing us to be. We have enjoyed every second with you all. ❤️ We wish you all so much love and luck for the future and we shall treasure all the memories we shared under the trees! 🌳 Take care and a final massive Thank You! Becca and Lindsey xx

Friday saw the first of our annual bee 🐝 and honey 🍯 days! We had a visit from honey bear, who loved meeting all the children 🐻. There was an opportunity to make a pinecone and wool bee, toast bread on the fire and spread it with butter and honey and a chance to learn more about the declining, but vital uk bee population by following a fact trail around the woods. We also played a brilliantly fun nectar and hive game, involving filling cups with water (the nectar) and returning to the ‘hive’ - great on a warm day. It was all very bee-autiful and so much fun! Thank you for joining us!

LONG POST but for a good reason:
It is with a heavy heart💔 that we have decided to close Weald At Heart Forest School after three and a half wonderful and inspiring years working with hundreds of families in the local area.
It has not been an easy decision at all, but an increasingly challenging economic climate and rising costs means that we will run our final session in two weeks’ time.
All our clients on our mailing list should now be aware via an email that was sent out this week, but we wanted to announce it here too. 🌳
We just wanted to take this opportunity to say a HUGE THANK YOU ☺️ to each and every person who has attended our Forest School sessions over the years. It is YOU, the much cherished Forest School families who have been our inspiration and joy during this time! We have so many treasured memories 😃 that it is almost impossible to single some out. But we have had some really crazy, inspiring and heartwarming moments including those times singing songs under the shelter in the middle of a downpour ☔️ and who could forget cheering on snails 🐌 and slugs in a ‘race’? The memories of listening to the crackle of the fire 🔥 and watching the children mesmerised by the flames whilst toasting tasty treats will remain with us. We shall miss it ALL!
Then there are the magical Forest School moments when your children have shown a leap in confidence and resilience and their happy smiling faces when discovering something new and unexpectedly joyful in the natural 🍃 world.
We have loved 🥰 every bit, every session, but most of all we have loved meeting YOU ALL!
Finally, on this, the 99th birthday of Sir David Attenborough, who is such an inspiration to us and to anyone looking to help safeguard our precious and vulnerable planet, we leave you with these parting words.
Take a little bit of Forest School into your future lives and continue to enjoy connecting to and advocating for nature. Our wonderful world 🌎 will thank you for it and we think it’ll make you feel good too. 😊
Take care
Lots of love ❤️

A very warm 🌞 day spent happily under the emerging canopy 🌳 at Forest School. The children explored the humble dandelion today. They had the opportunity to study each part of the plant, went on a dandelion fact hunt around the trees and discovered amongst other cool things, that the entire plant is edible! They also painted wonderful pictures with them - they looked really great! A few children tried to make a whistle with the stalk (Lindsey succeeded!) and they enjoyed squashing the yellow petals into homemade play dough. Meanwhile, lots of children enjoyed splashing and mixing water and leaves 🍃 in the mud kitchen and swinging in hammocks. It was also lovely to build a fun den 🏕️ amongst the trees today. Thanks for coming along everyone! ☀️

The joys of spring were clear to see during the first day of our new term of Forest 🌳 School. What a lovely time the children had planting sunflowers 🌻 and searching for more sunflowers on a trail through the woods. Plenty of fun too planting sunflower seeds in pots to take home. The children loved playing with the clay and painting with natural objects to make beautiful pictures. Thanks to everyone for coming along to play in the forest! ❤️ ☀️
