UNIVERSITY TRIP
Today was very hectic as pupils visited the numerous universities in Edinburgh - Edinburgh Uni, Napier, Heriot-Watt and Queen Margaret's. Each university provided interested pupils with tours and informative talks. This evening pupils will walk to the centre of Edinburgh for tea, then return to rest ahead of a busy day in Glasgow tomorrow.

🎓📚 POSITIVE NEWS FROM THURSO HIGH SCHOOL

Encouraging news for pupils, families and staff at Thurso High School today! ❤️

The Highland Council says its work to raise educational attainment across the region is beginning to show positive early results.

At a recent Education Committee meeting, Thurso High School Head Teacher Hannah Flavell presented the school’s work to councillors and explained how measures introduced at the school have helped improve educational outcomes.

Early results across Highland include:

📈 Strong improvement among S6 pupils achieving three or more Highers at grades A–C
📚 Increased attainment among S4 pupils
➕ Noticeable improvements in S4 English and Maths
🌟 Encouraging progress for young people from some of the region’s most deprived communities

These figures cover schools across Highland, while Thurso High School was specifically highlighted for the work being undertaken locally.

A huge well done to the pupils, teachers, support staff, parents and everyone working hard to help our young people reach their full potential. This is positive recognition for our school and the wider Thurso community! 👏❤️

A more detailed analysis of the 2026 results is expected to be presented to councillors in November.

UNIVERSITY TRIP
Senior pupils have embarked on the annual 4 day trip to view Scottish Universities. After the long drive down the A9, they were welcomed at Stirling University for an informative talk and tour. The group are now heading to their accommodation at Edinburgh University. Tomorrow is a busy day as they visit the 4 Edinburgh uni's.

VOLLEYBALL
A new Volleyball Club is starting after school today in Gym 1, from 3:35pm – 4:30pm. Open to all pupils from S1 to S6 - all abilities are welcome, so come along and give it a try! Please see Miss Martin (PE) if you require any further details.

S5/6 Event: ‘So you want to be a Doctor?’

A ‘So You Want to be a Doctor?’ event will be taking place on Wednesday 23rd September at UHI House in Inverness from 9.45am to 3pm and is aimed at S5/S6 pupils planning to apply or currently applying to study Medicine.

On the day, pupils will hear from medical students, will gain advice about the process for applying to study Medicine and will also take part in four practical workshops.

Pupils should be aware that places are limited. Interest should be registered by submitting the form below by 14th September.

LOST PROPERTY - REMINDER
All lost property clothing will be on display in the main foyer for pupils to reclaim from Monday, 24 - Friday 28 August. Parents are welcome to pop in from 3.40-5.00 pm to see if they can reclaim any items. Any items remaining will be given to charity.
