Congrats to Kirstin Sinclair, who has been recognised for her hard work in the care sector, receiving a Work Based Learning Recognition Award from UHI North, West and Hebrides.

Kirstin completed her SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care while working at Riverside House Care Home. Through her qualification, she developed her confidence, communication and teamwork skills, as well as her knowledge of person-centred care.

Kirstin said: “Winning this award has made me feel very proud and recognised for all the hard work and effort I have put into completing my qualification. I am especially proud that I pushed myself to complete my SVQ while working and caring for my children.”

A huge congratulations to our UHI North, West and Hebrides students recognised in the 2026 Sporting Blues awards, which celebrate outstanding sporting achievement across the UHI partnership. 🎉

🏆 Madelaine Archibald has been recognised for her achievements in equestrian sport, with Josh Beveridge and Lyle Gillie receiving awards for their contributions to the UHI golf team.

Have you got both MenB vaccine doses for heading to university or college?

➕ If you’re eligible for the MenB vaccine (older teenagers and new students under 25), you’ll need two doses for protection

➕ Your second dose must be given at least 28 days after your first

➕ Protection develops around two weeks later. So, it’s important to get protected as soon as possible

Today is Merchant Navy Day – an opportunity to recognise the contribution and sacrifice of seafarers past and present.

Fittingly, new students have begun the NQ Access to Merchant Navy Cadetship programme at our Stornoway Campus.

They’ve taken time to recognise the occasion, standing by the Red Ensign, traditionally displayed to mark Merchant Navy Day.

Heading to university or college this autumn? You may be eligible for the MenB vaccine.

The MenB vaccine is being offered to older teenagers and new students under 25 who are at higher risk of exposure to meningococcal group B bacteria.

If you’re eligible, it’s important to take up the offer as soon as possible when starting your new semester, which includes two doses.
