This week in Badgers the children have been learning about their families and homes.
They have told each other who is in their family, we talked about what items go in different rooms in our houses and what pet we have at home.
In maths we have been using shapes to make things. We made a house out of shapes and built rockets with the mobilo.
This weeks Nursery Rhyme of the week Round and round the garden.

This week in Squirrels we have still been learning “all about me”. They have shared photos at carpet time of their families. A big thank you to our parents for sharing your photos with us it has been lovely hearing your children talk about the people important to them.
In maths we have been measuring ourselves using tape measures and height charts. We have also been making shapes with natural materials.
The children were very giggly when we drew around them, they had fun drawing their own features.
We have enjoyed playing outside mark making with chalks and water.
Inside we have joined in with some music and movement, dancing with scarves.

It’s been lovely to see all the children come back to Little Acorns happily. I would like to give the new families that have joined us a warm welcome.

The children have settled into their new routine in Badgers well.
This week Badgers have been learning about ourselves. We have painted and drew pictures of ourselves. Practiced writing our names, during topic talks we have used mirrors to see what colour our hair and eyes are, told each other how old we are and what our name is. We have measured how many bricks tall we are.

Miss Molly had a Dolly has been our nursery rhyme of the week in phonics, we have used this rhymes to look at rhyming, alteration, syllables, and listening and recognising sounds from the rhyming.
In physical we have been onto the MUGA developing jumping skills.

This week in Squirrels we have been settling back into a routine. We have been learning all about me. In phonics we have used the mirrors to describe ourselves, In maths we used our capacity language full/empty whilst making playdoh. We have talked about looking after ourselves and the importance of cleaning our teeth. We have been brushing teeth cards and they enjoyed washing the dolls and brushing her teeth too.
We enjoyed putting on our puddle suits and wellies and puddle jumping.

Badgers
This week we have been learning about summer. We have learnt about sun safety, sorted winter and summer clothes out, designed our own buckets and spades and used sand to make sandcastle pictures.

What a lovely day on Tuesday celebrating the Badgers achievement at Little Acorns. Starting with their graduation followed by a fun party and we ended the day playing on the field with a visit from Mr Swales.

Squirrels
This week in Squirrels 🐿️ we have been following our summer/holidays topic. The home corner has been transformed into a an aeroplane cockpit, we have been making passports and tickets and role playing going on holiday.
In phonics we have been playing silly sounds.
In maths we have been exploring our capacity language full/empty and have been filling different containers to fill them up and pour them back out.
We have enjoyed our preschool party on Monday with lots of dancing.
In forest schools they all took turns completing the obstacle course.

Badgers
What a busy week, this week we have been learning about holidays and we have decently had holiday weather.
We have brainstormed different ways we would get to our holiday, clothes we would take and learnt about beach safety.
On Monday our Daddy’s came in to play with us to celebrate Fathers Day
On Tuesday we had beach day, where we had lots of fun in the paddling pools.
On Wednesday we played water games with water balloons and squirters, we all got very wet which helped us to cool down.
On Thursday we had continued our beach learning by making sandcastles and flags to put in them.
On Friday we had PE under a tree to keep cool.
Lots of fun in the sun!

Squirrels
This week we have been working hard to keep cool with all the sunshine we’ve had. This has meant lots of water play!
We have enjoyed lots of water based activities, a paddling pool day, and exploring the aqua play tray.
In maths we have been exploring floating and sinking.
In phonics we have been packing a suitcase, talking about the types of things we would pack on a holiday and choosing between winter and summer clothes for our holiday.

This week in Little Acorns the children have been learning about people who help.

Badgers
On Monday we had a tour of the school and learnt about teachers and office workers.
On Tuesday we learnt about builds, we explored all the different trade jobs there are and what they do.
On Wednesday we looked at the emergency services, we made pretend calls to ask for help, remembering to say where we are. In the afternoon we had a visit from Coalville fire service, which was very fun.
On Thursday we learnt about different shops. We played hair dressers, painted pretend nails ( with paint) played shop keepers and drew a high street and labelled what shops we visit.
on Friday we learnt about doctors and gets. This afternoon we have 2 vets coming to visit to show us what they do at work.

In maths we have been using instruments to make a given number of beats.
As part of our transition to school we have joined in with a PE session and got changed into our PE kits. We did really well. We have also had a play in the foundation class and met Miss Taylor.

The squirrels children have had lots of fun finding out about the different people who help us. They have made pretend calls to the police as the big bad wolf was coming.
In phonics Squirrels made trumpets to make different voice sounds.
In maths they have been counting spots on dice, made a board game and completed jigsaws. The squirrels have used straw to blow a pom pom into a target in physical development.

The children have all come back after half term with lots of news of the fun they have had while they were off.

This week in Badgers the children have been learning about dinosaurs. They have painted dinosaurs, made fossils, gone on a dinosaur hunt in Forest schools and copied noises that dinosaurs make.
Badgers have learnt about how dinosaurs are now extinct, what they ate and looked at difference between different dinosaurs.
During Badgers starter activity the children have been developing writing their names.
In maths Badgers have been making 3 part patterns in a variety of ways.
On Thursday we played curling with year 5 and 6, it was lots of fun.

This week in Squirrels we have been learning about our new book of the term Hairy Maclarey from Donaldsons dairy. We have talked about the story, made story maps, talked about the differences between the dogs. In maths we have been looking at making patterns using loose parts, counting and comparing. In physical we were rescuing the animals that were tangled up in elastic bands, we made playdough and have been working hard strengthening our fine motor skills. We have also been playing in small groups working on turn taking. Well done Squirrels, we have had a busy week! 🐿️

This week at Little Acorns Pre-school we have had a challenge week.

Badgers have been doing lots of counting and seeing what number we can get too in maths.
In phonics Badgers have been challenging ourselves to see how long we can make a rhyming string and how many words we can think of starting with the same sound.
In physical Badgers have had cutting challenges, fine motor skill challenges and ball skills and balancing.

Squirrels have taken part in lots of challenges including pen control, balancing, blow painting, a water tray challenge and colour hunting. They have enjoyed playing with the parachute, tents and tunnels.

We ended the week with a Little Acorn fun morning on the field playing with bubbles and sports equipment followed by parachute games.
