I’ve had my final lessons with my Year 11s this week. Saying goodbye to students is never easy, especially when I have taught some of them since primary; I will miss each and every one of them.

My students have been amazing, and watching their growth has been a privilege. I’m so proud of their commitment and progress. I want to thank all my parents this year for their support, and for choosing me to work with their children.

Question 4 is all about comparing the writers' viewpoints and perspectives. To score top marks, students need to do three things exceptionally well:

✅ Compare attitudes: Show how the two writers' thoughts and feelings are similar or different.
✅ Compare and analyse methods: Don't just say they have an opinion; analyse how they use language, structure, or tone to get their point across.
✅ Back it up: Select precise quotes from both sources to support your ideas.

Use comparative connectives like ‘similarly’, ‘whereas’ or ‘in contrast’.

For question 2:

✅ State the similarity or difference
✅ Quote from both sources
✅ Infer what the quotes imply
✅ Tie it back to the focus of the question

Use comparative connectives like ‘similarly’, ‘whereas’ or in contrast’.
