Through the summer, the risk to the public through accidental drowning increases significantly.

During Drowning Prevention Week, which runs 13 – 20 June, Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK is encouraging everybody to keep safe but still have fun by raising awareness of water safety ahead of the summer.

We will be supporting this week by showcasing what we offer to help people gain the skills you might need to stay safe in the water.🏊

As you may have seen or heard in recent press/media, East Riding of Yorkshire Council have launched an app called Better Points, which rewards people of traveling more sustainable either through walking, wheeling of using public transport locally.

The app is available to download free of charge to all adults who live work or study within the East Riding, and points can be redeemed for vouchers to spend at high street shops or donated to charities.

This month, to coincide with celebrating Bike Week, all users can enter a prize draw to win a Brompton folding bike, as well as taking part is regular challenges/competitions to boost points.

This is fantastic opportunity to further encourage school communities to travel actively, whether that’s on the school run, to work, the shops or for leisure, helping to make East Riding a happier, healthier place.

Oral language plays a vital role in children’s learning, literacy and social and emotional development.

Our latest guide supports parents and educators with practical, evidence-informed strategies to help children build school-ready language skills.

The guide explores:
• Building oral language through meaningful interaction
• Supporting listening and attention
• Growing children’s vocabulary
• Sharing stories and naming feelings
• Working with settings to spot and support language needs
• Using evidence-based approaches to meet individual needs

With language developing rapidly between the ages of two and six, early support can make a lasting difference to children’s confidence, communication and readiness for school.
