This morning I tried something new…

I went open-water swimming at Cromhall Quarry — something I’ve wanted to do for a couple of years but kept putting off.

And on the way there, feeling slightly nervous, I started thinking about all the firsts we ask of our children.

My son, particularly when he was younger, had a default response to anything new:

NO.

Unless he had enough information to know exactly what to expect.

A fair response, I think!

And yet, how often do we give children a date, time and place and expect them to happily walk into something completely new?

With September just around the corner, perhaps your curious kid is starting school, a new year, a new activity or a completely different routine.

And a HUGE good luck to all your curious kids starting something new this September. 💚

As for the swimming?

When I created the Curious Kids Science Club, there was one thing I felt really confident about...

The hands-on activities.

I know children love learning by doing. That's why everything we create is built around exploring, investigating and getting hands-on. Every question includes experiments or hands-on activities because that's how children make sense of the world.

The part I really wanted to test was everything around those activities.
Could I bring all the information together in a way that made it easy for families to explore science confidently at home?
Would the videos make sense?
Would the explanations be clear?
So one of my favourite pieces of feedback from our Founding Members wasn't about the experiments at all.

It was simply:
💙 "Everything was really clear."

That might sound like a small comment, but to me it's huge.

Because my goal isn't just to provide fun science activities.

It's to give families the confidence to explore their children's questions together, knowing the science is accurate, easy to understand and genuinely engaging.

I'm now taking everything I've learnt from this pilot and getting ready to launch the full Curious Kids Science Club this autumn.

This summer, something really exciting has been happening...

Our very first Curious Kids Science Club has been running with a small group of Founding Members.
Together we've explored
☀️ How hot is the Sun?
💧 Why do we have to drink water?
🌊 How are waves formed?
🌵 How do plants and animals survive in the desert?

Every question has been answered through simple explanation videos, hands-on experiments, crafts and activities that families can enjoy together.

My favourite part?
Answering bonus questions from curious kids within the club. Why?
Because when children ask the question themselves, they're already excited to discover the answer.

That's why Curious Kids has always been built around children's curiosity.

Imagine having a new set of activities every month that helps you confidently answer your child's science questions without spending hours searching online and based on science you can trust.

That's exactly what I'm getting ready to launch this autumn.

This summer wasn't about selling.
It was about listening.

I could have launched the Curious Kids Science Club straight away.
Instead, I chose to spend the summer running a pilot with a small group of Founding Members.

Why?

Because I want to create something that genuinely supports families when their curious kids ask those amazing questions...

"Why is the sea blue?"
"How hot is the Sun?"
"Why does the Moon change shape?"
..and you're not quite sure how to answer them in a way your child will truly understand.

Or perhaps you simply want to nurture your child's natural curiosity and give them opportunities to explore the science behind the world around them.

But I didn't want to guess what families needed.
I wanted to listen.

So together, our Founding Members and I have been testing everything.
Could families easily find their way around the membership?
Were the videos engaging?
Were the explanations clear?
Did the activities fit into real family life?
Did they genuinely help children understand the science?

Already, I've had feedback that has made me smile:
💙 "The videos are great."
💙 "Everything was really clear."

Over the next few weeks I'll be implementing everything I've learnt, ready for the official launch of Curious Kids Science Club later this year.

Not entirely on brand... but I couldn't resist seeing what AI could do! 😄

At the @ this summer we saw Mudskippers....

Mudskippers spends much of its time out of the water!

Using its strong fins, it can "walk" and even climb over muddy mangrove roots. It keeps water in its gill chambers so it can still breathe, and its eyes sit on top of its head, giving it a great view of the world around it.

How amazing is that?!

Mudskippers are fascinating because they help us to understand how animals can adapt to different environments.
