Base Camp became a
Worm Appreciation Society for the morning, as Super Scientists Club (aka Becca Clarkson) helped us explore the wonders of worms 🪱 .
We learnt the longest one ever was 7m 😳 and the longest found in the UK is called Dave 😂!
We discovered how important they are for healthy soil to grow our food in - and made edible versions of the soil layers using biscuits 🍪!
Unsure whether real worms would show themselves due to the dry weather 🌞, we set about emulating rain ☔️(stamping on the ground) and to our delight they showed themselves - we found over 50 🪱🪱🪱! What an amazing morning of science. 🧑🔬👨🔬
In the afternoon we got creative and experimented with different materials and different land art techniques . Using honey we stuck leaves 🍁 to smooth tree trunks to form a pattern. We made mandalas out of pine cones and falling leaves 🍂 from the woodland floor.
We used wool to weave around Y sticks to create characters and over in the messy corner we mixed mud paint 🎨 to create Pollock-esque masterpieces 🖼️!
All in all - a busy adventure 😅.

The end of our first week of adventures saw us visit our friends, Thirsk Bowmen at their range. We worked hard at our technique and our efforts paid off as began to hit reds and blues on the target 🎯 and then finally some balloons!🎈
In the afternoon we saw some impressive teamwork, problem-solving 🤔 and camaraderie as we built dens. Some were military🪖 bases - hidden out of sight - some were hang outs for friends ❤️. They all had their own personalities 😊.

The woodland 🌲transformed from yesterday’s medic centre ⛑️ to a grand theatre 🎭, where our imaginations and creativity came alive with a little guidance from Becky from Thunk-It Theatre !
Taking inspiration from a magical-looking tree stump, we conjured up a myriad of fantasies 🦄 and gripping stories 📖 that took us to castles 🏰 , battlefields ⚔️ and fairylands 🧚♀️.
The whole group developed their own plays, composed a song 🎵 , and made props and scenery before performing to an enraptured audience 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻.
Amazing 🤩!

What a busy adventure today!
We became wild first aiders ⛑️, thinking about common accidents that happen when we’re outdoors. We then set about role-playing and being first-aiders to our friends with bandages 🩹 and dressings being applied on all available limbs 🦵💪🏼!
Natural first aid was our next stop. We looked at plaintain 🌱which can be used to help stop bleeding cuts before trying some herbal🪴 teas 🫖 and learning the different ailments they can help.
We mixed and made our own herbal tea bags and also a sleep sachet filled with lavender and chamomile, for sweet dreams 😴 .
After lunch we had the privilege of a visit from Upper Wharfdale Mountain Rescue ⛰️⛑️. An entirely voluntary-run organisation they took time to show us their equipment and vehicle and talk to us about what to do if we need to call them.
Everyone got a turn on the stretcher and sit in the Land Rover and sound the siren 🚨! It was an amazing opportunity - huge thanks to them.
Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association
Thanks also to Thirsk Hockey Club for donating their expired first aid supplies.

Summer Adventures kicked off with Kayaking 🛶 and Forest School 🪚.
Some incredible perseverance and teamwork was displayed as we figured out how to manoeuvre the kayak and collect the (rubber) ducks 🦆!
Big thanks to David from River Mountain Experience
Over in the woods we crafted animals out of wood to create quite the menagerie 🐢🐑🐝. Perhaps friends for our resident barn swallow family 🐧 who put on a fabulous aerial show as the fledglings were trying out their wings!
