Businessmen and traders open their new financial accounts during the Gujarati New Year. With new accounts to start the new year, they also bid farewell to the old ones.

The first page of the account books is opened with a sw****ka.

In Hinduism, the right-facing symbol (卐) is called sw****ka, symbolising surya ("sun"), prosperity and good luck, while the left-facing symbol (卍) is called sauwastika, symbolising night or ta***ic aspects of Kali. 

After which the shubh-labh is written.  

Shubh - “Auspiciousness” 
Labh - “Profit” 

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫.

Since Gujarati New Year coincides with Govardhan Puja, the day is considered auspicious and promising. 

Chopda Puja is performed on this day, which is solely dedicated to Goddess Laxmi. On this day, they worship her in hopes that she will help make the new year prosperous, peaceful, and profitable.💕
