Norway, you absolute beast. š³š“
For our very first swimrun event, Lewis and I decided to skip āeasing into itā and went straight for Rockmanāan event that proved to be the most stunning, grueling, and beautifully ominous experience on the planet.
The Fjord, The Tether, and The Cruise Liner
Nothing quite prepares you for the sheer scale of the fjordsāor the terrifying reality of a fjord crossing. Being tethered to Lewis sounded great in theory. In practice? We discovered we are both spectacularly terrible at sighting. Combating a brutal current while tethered together, we managed to drift so far off course that we nearly crossed paths with a moving cruise liner.
There is a very specific brand of adrenaline that hits when you can actively hear the thrum of a massive ship propeller vibrating through the water beneath you.
Mind Over Meniscus
Iāll admit, I arrived at the starting line riddled with nerves. Just four months ago, I tore my meniscus, and the doubt was loud. I started the race heavily bandaged, but after the initial 1k swim, the bandage came off. That first technical trail truly tested the jointābut the knee held. Once I realized it was going to survive the beating, a massive wave of relief gave me the strength and momentum I needed to just drive forward.
From Glaciers to the Hot Tub
The course was pure, unadulterated magic.
The FlĆøyrli Steps: Steep, relentless, and glorious.
The High Alpine: Pushing through the breathtaking, icy glacier lakes.
The Finish Line Reward: Collapsing into a hot tub perched right on the waterās edge, trading battle stories and shared moments with incredible athletes from all over the world.
We came, we swam, we climbed, we survived. We didnāt see any trolls (thankfully, the cruise liner was enough excitement for one day, but we left a piece of our souls in those mountains.
We couldnāt have chosen a better debut. Rockman, you were unforgettable. We will be back.
