🕰️ Throwback Thursday... on a Friday! 🕰️

We are running a little late this week, but we just couldn’t resist a trip down memory lane! Let’s look back exactly 20 years ago to June 2006, when Homewood celebrated a monumental landmark: the Grand Opening of the Kirk Building!

Named in honour of Mrs. Jill Kirk for her incredible 30 years of service as a governor (and 16 as Chair), it was an unprecedented week-long celebration that rolled out the red carpet for our community.
Here is how we celebrated two decades ago:

A Global Affair: We welcomed partner schools from China, Russia, Slovenia, Germany, and The Netherlands for vineyard tours and local visits!

Star-Studded Ceremony: The building was formally opened on Friday, June 23rd. We were honored to have the Rt Hon Baroness Estelle Morris deliver the main speech and school patron Sir Donald Sinden give the closing remarks.

Student Excellence: Our amazing vocational catering students were at the heart of the action, preparing and serving spectacular lunches for our guests.

Epic Celebrations: The week featured a packed Celebration Concert in the Sinden Theatre, a community Extravaganza in the Sports Hall, a massive school reunion for students from 1948–2000, and a legendary staff party with the Counterfeit Beatles!

🏢 The Kirk Building: Then & Now

When this £3.6m state-of-the-art facility first opened, it originally housed our Knowledge Information and Communication Centre (KICC), Health & Social Care, and retail spaces.

Fast forward 20 years, and the Kirk Building remains a bustling, vibrant hub of innovation for Homewood School & Sixth Form Centre. Today, it is proudly home to:

Business Studies 📈
Our busy Print Room 🖨️
The School Uniform Shop 👔
Our extensive School Library 📚
GCSE Catering, using our iconic balcony restaurant 🍳

The Kirk Building was built on a vision of “putting learning first”—a philosophy our staff and students bring to life every day.

🏆 ALUMNI SUCCESS! 🏆

Huge congratulations to former Homewood student Oscar, who has just struck gold on the international stage! 🥇

Oscar recently represented his country at the ESSF European Open Schools U18 Men’s 3x3 Basketball Championship in Belgrade, Serbia—and his team brought home the championship win! What an incredible way to wrap up a stellar first year at Myerscough College. 🏀✨

We love seeing our alumni achieve amazing things. Mr. Single, Mr. Clarke, Miss Kennett, and Mrs. Bulless are incredibly proud of you, Oscar! Keep shining! 🌟

to the tech, the trends, and the absolute classics from 2007. 🎒

Our latest archive find is the 2007 Homewood prospectus! Look at those CRT monitors in the background, the classic maroon uniform, and some very familiar school corridors.

Time flies, but the Homewood community stays connected. If you see yourself or a friend in these pictures, let us know what you're up to today!

🚜 Throwback Thursday: Kent County Show 2005!

It’s time to dust off the photo albums! For this week’s , we’re heading back 21 years to 2005 (yes it’s that long ago) for the Kent County Show at Detling to celebrate our incredible Young Farmers.

These photos capture the hard work, dedication, and team spirit of our students representing Homewood in the show rings. From grooming the livestock to the early morning starts at the showground, our Young Farmers have always been a huge part of the school’s pride and heritage.

🐄 Memories from the Show-ground

• The Team: Look at that lineup! Do you remember who was in your showing team that year?

• The Livestock: Can you recall which animals you were responsible for?

• The Pride: There’s nothing quite like the feeling of representing Homewood at one of the biggest events in the county.

We want to hear from you! Tag your fellow Young Farmers in the comments and share your favorite stories from the 2005 show. Whether it was a win in the ring or just the laughs in the pens, let’s reminisce together.

: a look back at the school grounds! 🏫📚

Following on from last weeks “then vs now” photos of the school grounds. Take a look at some more snapshots from the mid 70s. While we may not still be using VHS 📼 and grooving to disco vinyls 🪩 , the school still very much remains the same.

: A different view of The Mansion! 🏛️✨

Check out these snapshots from the mid-1970s. While some things at Homewood have changed—like the cars in the car park (spot that classic 1975 Vauxhall Chevette!)—the heart of our school remains the same.
