Memories of Wrekin
β€œOne of my favourite activities was spending time in the art studio. I could spend hours there and often learned a new skill. I even attempted to sell my GCSE art on eBay, which was probably my first attempt at running a business, even though I didn't make any sales.”

After Wrekin
"I met a couple of my lifelong friends in Wrekin, one of whom was my Maid of Honour. For me, Wrekin was all about building a strong community and supporting each other, even during our teenage years. These values have stayed with me throughout my life. It wasn't just the students who made a difference; I also formed great relationships with several teachers. I have even given guest lectures at universities where some of these teachers now work. I never found the Western education system to be a natural fit for me as a right-brained person. However, I always appreciated how hard teachers worked to help me. When IT became a new subject, one teacher encouraged me to take an extra GCSE, and I ended up with an easy A in a subject I had never seen before. I have never forgotten the importance of supporting and nurturing talent, and this has helped me in building my own successful business."

Memories of Wrekin
β€œOne of my fondest memories was my active participation in the Wrekin Charity Day. I took the initiative to organise a group of Tudor boys, along with Dr. Roberts, who was the Housemaster at the time, participated in a group "Tudor Head shave" held in the Chapel in front of the entire school. To promote the event, we even went to the extent of redesigning the classic "Your Country Needs You" poster. It was a fantastic experience as we managed to raise over Β£1,000 for Cancer Research UK. We had a great time getting our peers excited about the event, and Dr. Roberts played a crucial role in maximizing the fundraising efforts.”
After Wrekin
"My time as a student at Wrekin had a profound impact on my personal growth. It taught me valuable lessons such as gaining confidence, adapting to new people and cultures, as well as believing in myself. However, one of the most important lessons I learned was the concept of giving back. The experience of being a Head of House for Tudor on the Wrekin Charity Day significantly influenced my current endeavours I am grateful to be a part of an amazing team at Search Seven, where we share a common goal of making a positive impact. We proudly donate 7% of our company's profits to charity which is why "seven" holds significance in our name. This year, I’m supporting Switchboard Brighton & Hove."

2024 is set to be one to remember as we gear up to celebrate the 100th anniversary of York House!
We felt it only fitting to take a trip down memory lane for this year's first throwback post.

The 100-year-old logbook reveals the origins of York House.
The first entry written by the founding Housemaster, R. G. Gibbon, reads:

"The House was founded in May 1924, increasing numbers having made the four existing Houses inadequate. The name has no special significance, it continues the tradition of christening the House after the English dynasties. The colours, magenta and black, were chosen by the Headmaster: they had been the colours of his own house (Judde) at Tonbridge."

So now you know!

Tag your York House friends and stay to get all the centenary celebration updates.

Memories of Wrekin
β€œOver the years, Wrekin has taken me to some amazing places, with the furthest being Australia. However, the most special memory I have of Wrekin will always be in the Chapel, the heart of the school. The sound of the Wrekin roar singing Jerusalem will forever stay with me. Nothing could compare to the feeling of listening to the incredible noise made by Wrekinians, and the sense of pride and unity that filled the chapel. It gave me goosebumps every time, truly unforgettable!
After Wrekin
"At the age of 24, I am now living my dream as a florist and running my own business called Teasel & Bloom. It keeps me incredibly busy! Wrekin School equipped me with the necessary skills and gave me unwavering self-belief that prepared me perfectly to pursue my dreams, even though they may have once seemed daunting and out of reach. I truly adored my time at Wrekin - the sense of family, the close-knit community, and the support that surrounded me there. It's something that you may not fully appreciate until you experience it from the other side, but Wrekin is truly a special place, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have been a part of it. I still reside in Shropshire, so I will never be too far away from Wrekin, which will always feel like home to me! β€œ
