A fantastic achievement for our Year 9 Reader Leaders! 📚👏

This week, 15 of our Year 9 students completed their Reader Leader training, delivered by the Children’s Literacy Charity.

Throughout the day, students explored some fascinating facts about reading, worked collaboratively in small groups, revisited their phonics knowledge and took part in a range of practical activities. They even stepped into the shoes of a Year 7 student through roleplay, helping them prepare for their important role mentoring and supporting younger readers.

All students successfully completed the training and were presented with their certificates. 🏆

Our external trainer was incredibly impressed with their enthusiasm, participation and attitude throughout the day. They were an absolute credit to the school, and we are very proud of them!

We can’t wait to see them put their new skills into practice with our Year 7 students. 📖 💙

💚 World Mental Health Day 💚

Next week at New Road Academy, we will be holding mental health focus days for each year group. Students will explore kindness, looking after their wellbeing and how to seek support for themselves or someone else.

We want every student to know that their feelings matter, they do not have to face difficulties alone, and asking for help is a sign of courage.

Together, we can make our school a place where everyone feels heard, valued and supported. 💚

This morning we had a fantastic event for students who have additional learning needs in Years 9, 10 and 11 and their parents. Local post-16 providers came into school to talk about their courses and provision. Some great conversations were had and there was a real buzz in the Hall!

On 22nd October, ALL year 9, 10 and 11 students will be invited to a careers fair during the school day where they can visit a wide range of employers, post-16 and higher education providers. We will send out more information closer to the time.

Thank you to all visitors today for making this such a brilliant event!
