Oral language plays a vital role in children’s learning, literacy and social and emotional development.

Our latest guide supports parents and educators with practical, evidence-informed strategies to help children build school-ready language skills.

The guide explores:
• Building oral language through meaningful interaction
• Supporting listening and attention
• Growing children’s vocabulary
• Sharing stories and naming feelings
• Working with settings to spot and support language needs
• Using evidence-based approaches to meet individual needs

With language developing rapidly between the ages of two and six, early support can make a lasting difference to children’s confidence, communication and readiness for school.

Today in Science, Year 1 explored the fascinating world of minibeasts! We began our lesson by discussing why different animals live in different places and thought about the types of habitats they might need.

We then learned what minibeasts are (small living creatures), discovered the names of some common ones, and talked about where they like to live.
To finish our lesson, we went on an exciting minibeast hunt around the school grounds. As we explored, we searched carefully for different creatures and ticked them off on our checklist when we found them.
We had lots of fun investigating and observing these tiny living things! 🐜🕷️
