New research from National Highways reports there are 59% more fatigue-related deaths and serious injuries on the country’s motorways and major A roads in summer than any other time of the year. In addition, one-in-eight of overnight deaths and serious injuries involved fatigue, more than double the proportion at other times of the day. These accidents are preventable with proper preparation. We are committed to improving road safety by empowering people through education to positively change behaviour. Be safe on UK roads this summer. Read out top tips here ➡️ https://buff.ly/4fUOhxN
It's a bank holiday weekend and a time for BBQs, lazy pub lunches or a day by the seaside. But how many of us will have a refreshing alcoholic drink or two and then need to drive home or depend on a lift home from someone who has been drinking. One in four motorists we surveyed confessed they don’t know the legal drink drive limit and 64% admitted to accepting a lift from someone who has exceeded the legal drink drive limit. Don’t take the risk this summer https://buff.ly/4dqbq9x
Recent Department for Transport (DfT) figures showed that van drivers are the most likely group of drivers to speed in built-up areas and on motorways. With around 4.5 million light commercial vehicles on UK roads, it means approximately two million of them are likely to be speeding in densely populated areas. Proactively intervene in your risky drivers. Find out more about our Driver Risk Assessments here https://buff.ly/3SXIrSx
The most recent figures from the Department for Transport (DfT) estimate 300 people were killed in crashes involving at least one driver over the legal alcohol limit in 2022. That is up from 260 the previous year and is the highest annual total since 2009 when 380 deaths were recorded. Don’t take the risk and become another statistic. We are committed to supporting drink driver rehabilitation. Visit our website to find out more https://buff.ly/4dqbq9x

Did you know you can reduce your driving ban by up to 25% with TTC? People convicted of drink driving in the UK can expect a driving ban of at least 12 months. However, if a defendant voluntarily offers to take an approved rehabilitation course, the court may consider reducing the duration. Successfully completing a TTC course could reduce the length of your ban by a quarter. For example, taking a 12-month ban down to 9 months. Enquire about our drink drive courses here – online or classroom venues available.

Police patrolling the M6 in National Highways’ unmarked HGV cabs caught hundreds of drivers committing offences during a week of action in June. One motorist was captured driving along the M40 with a phone in her hand and using the laptop next to her. Consequences for drivers ranged from warnings to fixed penalty notices, court summons or arrest. To mitigate against dangerous driving, driver training is an essential tool to reduce risk, helping drivers make informed driving decisions and stay safe on the road. As well as driver workshops and on road training, we provide flexible, accessible e-learning courses. Visit here for more information https://buff.ly/3KWAsAV

We have bid a fond farewell to two of our longstanding NDORS trainers, Sue Duncan and Graham Munday from Devon and Cornwall, who have both retired this month.
Their contributions to road safety and driver education have been instrumental since the inception of the NDORS Scheme. Graham Munday, known for his pioneering spirit, was one of the first trainers to return to the classroom after the COVID-19 lockdown. His efforts ensured that our clients had the option to attend in-person courses, a testament to his belief in providing choice to clients. Sue Duncan has been a dedicated advocate for road safety and driver training, helping support the many clients and other trainers over the years. Beyond her role in the scheme, she has significantly contributed to the broader driver training community through her active participation in the Approved Driving Instructors (ADI) National Joint Council, where she serves as the secretary.
The TTC family and Devon and Cornwall NDORS panel wish you a very happy retirement.
Have you yet to complete your training if your driver qualification card (DQC) is due to expire this September? Knowing how many hours you have left, which courses are best to do and why there are so many drivers with cards running out at the same time can be confusing.
To help answer all of these questions, the DVSA spoke to Bob Hannigan, Head of National Standards and Accreditation at DVSA, who has shared his thoughts in its latest blog post on Driver CPC training.
TTC is an approved DVSA training centre for Driver CPC periodic training with over 50 hours of engaging training options to choose from. Pay-per-place online courses are available seven days a week and at weekends, so you never need to miss your DQC expiry date.
Or you can pick and mix any of our interactive modules and create your own private bespoke online or in-person course for your staff.

New figures from the Department of Transport have worryingly revealed that drink-drive deaths on Britain’s roads have reached a 13-year high. An estimated 300 people were killed in crashes involving a drink-driver last year and a further 6500 were injured in drink-drive crashes. These statistics are alarming, but figures confirm that reoffending by those who have been convicted and then undertaken a court-referred drink-drive course have remained static over the last decade. Proactive rehabilitation saves lives. Find out more about our courses here https://buff.ly/3y9lVPB

She told us it’s an amazing job, with no two days the same and says the most rewarding part is seeing people’s changing attitudes towards road safety. It’s not just the job that sets TTC apart. Teresa experienced a devasting event in her life, but she says, the kindness and support from colleagues across the business, at every level, was amazing and it’s a privilege to be part of the TTC family. Latest figures from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) show a rise in the number of work-related fatalities. The common causes of fatal accidents to workers are being struck by a moving vehicle, struck by a moving object and falling from heights. Between them they accounted for around 70% of fatal injuries to workers in 2023/24. These stark figures demonstrate the need for quality training to help ensure that construction and infrastructure workers across the nation can operate safely and competently. TTC’s Synergie Training offers effective, accredited training for the construction and infrastructure sectors. Find out more here https://buff.ly/4cHwQyP
The ‘New Vehicle General Safety Regulation’ came into effect on Sunday 7 July 2024, mandating a range of technical safety features be fitted to new cars as standard within the EU and Northern Ireland. These include intelligent speed assistance, autonomous emergency braking, driver drowsiness and attention warning and emergency lane-keeping systems. Whilst not mandated in Britain yet, it is worth reminding fleets and drivers that the technology can sometimes misread speed limits or misapply them over a stretch of road and technology can't be blamed for a speeding offence. July sees the launch of a summertime drink drug drive campaign coordinated by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) and National Roads Policing Operations and Intelligence (NRPOII). It is the first campaign they have coordinated during the summer and follows the successful initiative Operation Limit – the Christmas crackdown on drink drug drivers, which resulted in 56,000 drink and drug tests being conducted at the roadside and over 6,600 arrests. However, prevention is better than cure. Our Interactive Workshop Driving Impairment, for anyone who drives for work, explores the effects and consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Crucially it proactively motivates behaviour change to safeguard a company’s reputation. Get in touch with us here to find out more here https://buff.ly/4cQTrsh
Is your business driving into trouble? Whether you have one staff member or 1,000, driver and vehicle compliance is not something your business can leave to chance. The financial and reputational implications of letting an employee drive illegally can be severe. The 1988 Road Traffic Act makes you liable if you encourage or permit an employee to drive without the correct licence, with further legal requirements for defective vehicles, or not having an MOT or business insurance. With TTC, you get peace of mind. We verify all your drivers’ licences, check owner-drivers are insured for business and make sure grey fleet vehicles are taxed and roadworthy, so you don’t have to. Casualties in relation to drug-driving have increased by a staggering 260% in the past 12 years. In response to this accelerating problem, we have launched a new online workshop to help businesses proactively educate employees on the risks of drug-driving, both recreational and prescribed.
The 3.5-hour workshop covers the impact of prescribed medication, such as painkillers and the three main types of drugs and explores their effects on driving and the use of machinery. It also covers common signs of drug use, police powers to stop drug-driving including roadside testing, and the law relating to drug-driving.

Fleet operators and commercial drivers take note! The British Medical Association (BMA) has said it will lobby the next government to reduce the drink-drive limit by nearly half for most people to 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood, or 0.05%, and to 20mg for new and commercial drivers. This comes as alcohol and drug-related deaths are at a record high. Our mantra has and always will be “NONE for the road”.
Our drugs and alcohol eLearning and Driver CPC training will help businesses and vocational drivers understand how alcohol, recreational and prescribed drugs can impair driving performance.
