Headstart

HEADSTART is an award winning programme for schools, developing physical & mental wellbeing. Chay Davis - Headteacher, Ercall Wood Technology College.

HEADSTART is an award winning business (Businesses for Children Awards - Educational Business for Young People 2017) which is run by Rhian Hickey (Qualified PE teacher). Rhian’s motivation and enthusiasm for this work is her belief in fun, appropriate and adaptable ways to inspire and motivate young children to develop physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. HEADSTART is a multi-activities after school club and curriculum time programme, run at primary schools in Shropshire. Rhian is committed to helping all children aged 4 - 11 to engage in positive fun activities which are beneficial to both their health and emotional well being, this in turn helps to build, develop their life skills and social development. Activities included in the programme are team building exercises, circle time, ball skills and general fitness, basic gymnastic activities, movement, health related exercise and fun games. HEADSTART also runs team building sessions, summer schools, emotional development workshops for both Primary and Secondary schools alongside work with nurture groups and sixth form students. As a fully qualified PE teacher (rated "outstanding" by OFSTED) Rhian also provides affordable PPA cover to enable schools to deliver a quality PE curriculum alongside running specific after school clubs (i.e. netball)

HEADSTART is dedicated to improving children's/young adults self esteem and confidence by ensuring the sessions are always stimulating, safe and challenging.

I received a wonderful email from one of my schools who sadly due to financial constraints, I have had to say goodbye to. Dunstall school children made my Fridays brighter and our memories together will remain in my heart always. 💛

Last schools sessions of the term completed whoop whoop!Haberdashers’ Adams sports day and summer school with The Creation Station Shrewsbury and Telford still to go! I will be heading into my 14th year of Headstart in September. I have had the best year topped off with surprising my fabulous upper sixth Adams’ Netball girls in Portugal for a night out! 😍

I have worked with this amazing lady for 20 years now. Today was our last ever team teaching session. Who would have thought when you started at Ercall Wood we would both now run our own successful businesses and will remain lifelong friends. Thank you for all the professional laughs and memories over the years. Just Haberdashers Adams’ sports day to get through with me bossing you about all day! ☀️ 🥎 💃🏼 🤸‍♀️ 🥰

I had the privilege of escorting my husband to Buckingham Palace garden party last week to recognise his services to education before his retirement. What a fabulous, momentous emotional day it was, finishing with the King having a little chat to us! 🥰 Amazing to be surrounded by so many inspirational people within the education sector 🍰 ☕️ 👑 🏰 🌷 🌲

What an emotional afternoon with my last ever session with my fabulous Rec Netball girls. Whilst the other three teams played matches at school we were short on space so we went ‘on tour’ ice skating! ⛸️
I’ve been truly spoilt by all the girls and it’s been a privilege to have taught them all. House rounders still to look forward to before they leave x ☀️ ☺️💐💛

Last week I had the privilege of helping run the House Netball tournament at Haberdashers’ Adams. The sun was shining and the girls had a fabulous morning, playing some outstanding Netball with Webb being crowned overall champions 💚💙💜🩷🖤
