Thank you dream 😂
Interestingly enough when I first shared my Earth School dream at the beginning of the year I read his book, and followed some advice from him, and had hope he may find me on social media and fund me. He is a fellow Home Educator after all and a dream enthusiast, and we share many opinions on education.
I then realised I didn't need magic funding, I needed to do the work, and have all I need to make it happen (though funding would help a lot and make it quicker 😅) I stoped searching for magic investors, and began to build it my way, with what I have (experience and passion, an internet connection to learn the new things I need to learn, and other people to ask and show me things I can't find myself).
Last night, as I'm in the real foundation laying stage, the bricks have been collected and are being lined up, I dreamed I met Simon Squibb (if you don't know he's a bloke, who built himself a multi million business from nothing, and now helps people build their own dreams via social media)
I told him about Earth School, and secretly a bit of me was hoping he would like it and fund it. And he asked me Why do I need to build it, why do I need to build an education community when I have community all around me in home education. And at first I felt judged and annoyed. Then I realised I needed the question, because I needed to come back to the why.
🌱Because all children deserve better education than our failing system
🌱Not just those who know to and can home educate or seek alternative education
🌱 Because building a provision for this publicly shows education can be done differently, it can be done well, and it works
🌱Because the Earth School consultations, training, talks and resources will reach and help so many children
🌱 Because being Pioneers in education will build opportunity fir children to grow into the pioneers of the future
So thank you dream Simon (and I'm open to that funding if you see this 😂)

I can't believe it's mid-August already! My summer has been filled with Play and Wellbeing sessions at events, study, and long fun days with family and friends and behind-the-scenes work transitioning to Earth School Education from The Montessori Rainbow. It's been busy, hot and fun!

It amazes me that the Sun is about 400 times wider than the Moon, but it is also about 400 times farther away from Earth, making both objects look the same size in our sky; isn't that just incredible!
What I loved about this evening's viewing (for us a local park ) was a sense of togetherness - strangers and friends chatted, children played, we shared our viewing options including glasses, pinhole cameras, colanders, water reflection and even an adapted telescope! The event brought people together in awe of the magic of nature ☀️🌕

So now The Montessori Rainbow is no more, and Earth School Education has truly begun. Am I leaving behind Montessori?
Absolutely not!
I was first introduced to Montessori education in Zimbabwe by dear friends during discussions about how education should change the world, promote peace, and centre the child's natural way of learning. And I fell in love with the method; I was particularly drawn to Dr Montessori's incredible work around 'Peace Education' for a better world. Then I began learning how rooted in child development, in the science of learning and childhood, the Montessori method is. When I returned to the UK, I began to study Montessori and trained to be a Montessori Educator myself: first Level 4, where I was introduced to the approach, the materials, and the classroom skills; then a degree in Montessori Pedagogy, where I dived deep into curriculum, philosophy, and pedagogical approaches. The training was full of depth, passed-down knowledge and skills, critical thinking and application based on observing children and on neuro and developmental science. I was very lucky to be taught by some incredible mentors.
Maria Montessori did not intend for educators to become custodians of an unchanging method. Her work emerged from scientific observation, and she continually refined her practice in response to what children revealed. In the same spirit, my own practice continues to evolve. Not by abandoning Montessori principles, but by remaining faithful to their foundation: careful observation of children, responsiveness to the culture and community in which they live, and adaptation of educational practice as evidence, understanding and changes in the world emerge.
